Piecing together bally s5500
Bill validator takes bills, stacks them, then cheats me out of my credits
Any ideas

The machine is just saving you time. Its going to take all your money anyways, why not just do it from the start..... :banghead:
What denomination is the machine.
If you set it to $100 denomination you will need to feed it 5 x $20 for 1 credit ?
Ie you may have thought you set it for $1.00
-
It’s set for .25.
Plays fine with coins. Thinking it may be dipswitches on BV.
Came without a BV, and I put one on from my parts bin.
-
I did an BV input test.
The machine accepts the $1, and registers it as 14 -1.
What would make the machine not add the credit during normal play?

Try your other MPU

I tried both mpu’s both pay and play in coins. BV takes bills on both, but no credits.
Tried a different BV head, same result.

Appreciate the help, exactly the kind of thread I was looking for.
My grey wire does appear to be in the right spot, and with two mpu’s tried, probably both boards don’t have a bad U34 chip.
Seems like it’d have to be bad backplane, wiring, or dipswitch? Any other possibilities?

Got a DBV 200 & double checking the grey wire mentioned in that link, the machine finally takes cash.
The grey wire definitely needed to be moved. Thanks so much for the link Sunrise Side!
