Title: No LED displays, no reel spin, burn mark on motherboard connection
Post by: knagl on May 24, 2020, 11:15:32 PM
This FAQ post contains information from the old NLG website (specifically, this post (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=14163.0) and the posts linked in that thread).  Thanks to users mwade109 for the sample picture, and stayouttadabunker for the Molex Trifurcon information.

If your IGT S+ slot machine suddenly has stopped working, and is not showing anything on the LED displays, the reels don't spin on their own (and are free-wheeling if you try to spin them by hand), and the denomination lamp is out, you likely have a bad connection at the motherboard where the main power for the machine is transferred from the power supply to the fixed motherboard via a wire harness.

Chances are you will see a burn mark on the end of the wire harness that connects to the motherboard from the power supply, as seen in the image attached to this post.  A short-term fix for this is, with the power off, unplug the power connector with the burn mark, gently clean off the pin(s) on the motherboard (if needed), re-seat the connector to make a better connection, then turn the machine back on.  However, this is only a band-aid, and you will run into the issue again in the future.

This connection is a common failure point on IGT S+ machines, in part due to the pins used in the connector.  If you are handy with tools, you can use a tiny screwdriver to pop out the affected connectors from the molex plug, then replace the oxidized connector(s) with a superior Trifurcon crimp-on terminal.  The Trifurcon ends have three points of contact with the pin on the motherboard, as opposed to the original terminal used by IGT which only touches the pin on one side.  The Trifurcon terminals can be ordered from Mouser, Digikey, or any other similar supplier.  Look for Molex part number 0008520113.  Here's the data sheet for that connector from Molex: Molex.com data sheet link (.pdf) (https://www.molex.com/webdocs/datasheets/pdf/en-us/0008520113_CRIMP_TERMINALS.pdf)

For those who just want to replace the whole wire harness and be done with the issue, there are some after-market wiring harnesses out there.  Long-time NLG member rslots (http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?action=profile;u=259) manufacturers and offers these harnesses with the Trifurcon terminals for sale at a nominal cost.  Send him a message (http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=259) to inquire about ordering an aftermarket harness.

Alternately, you could consider placing a WTB ("Want To Buy") ad in the classifieds section (http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?board=4.0) for a replacement power supply harness that runs between the power supply and the motherboard for your IGT S+ machine.
