Title: Are there replacement EPROM Chips available to purchase
Post by: Furms on March 04, 2022, 08:46:51 AM
I have a Fortune 1 and was having some issues (first photo).  My brother in law who I got the machine from came over to help me "Fix" it and while checking EPROMS he damaged one (Photo2).  After powering back up this is what the screen looks like now (photo 3).  Any ideas or is it beyond salvaging?  Thanks in advance.

Your photo is so small that it's impossible to see the condition of the Eprom.
Are the legs broken or bent?
Is the entire chip broken?

Please post a close-up, focused shot of that area on the MPU board showing the E proms.

Files for an older machine like that may not be real easy to find.   You may have to solder some temporary legs back on the EPROM, read it with a programmer,  and then write the file to a new EPROM.

Here they are, I pulled it up so you can see the damage.

This fix would be well beyond my level of expertise.

Can you post a pic looking down on it so we can see the numbers on the label and the chip?

Thanks.  I think it says 2716 on the EPROM just below the label?

The broken pins is a problem that needs to be fixed, but it also appears to be in the wrong socket.  The EPROM is labeled CGO-A, but it's plugged into GCO-B's socket.

I'd contact Badbaud (Alan) from K-Lar electronics (banner on main page), he may be able take care of the EPROM issue as well as fix the original problem.

Thank you for the help. I contacted him on his website.

Those are tri-voltage powered 2716 EPROMS.
They require +5V, -5V, and +12V to work.
No commercial programmer I have seen can program them.
Fortunately I built a tri-voltage programmer.
I can read a tri-voltage chip into the programmers memory then program that binary file onto a single voltage 2716 then read that file onto my computer.
That is how I have created a small folder of popular F1 programs for my use.

Are you able to run a diagnostic check of the board and fix my EPROM issue?

I'm going to steal an advertising phrase.

"And like a good neighbor Badbaud is there."
