I am pretty sure the only chip for PE and PE+ is the set chip. No clear needed, just hold the white button down and wait for a beep, then do the setup screens.

Set chip - sets denom and enables BV.

these machines are older coin only and are not fortune machines

Sounds good. I posted pictures of a PE+ super board a PE layout, picture of CPU screen from manual and a PE (borrowed picture from one of Jim's posts). I will assume you have something other than one of these.

Maybe you can post a picture of the machine and board you are trying to clear.

Usually crashing the RAM chip allows the game to start up after then pressing the white self test button until you hear a ding.
