Title: 1G cpu???
Post by: mr-monoxide on October 18, 2016, 05:04:17 PM
Hello all, today i received a refurbished 1G cpu (one of the good ones i think)but since it looks so different from the any of the other alpha cpu's that i have i thought it would be a good idea to ask the experts before i do something wrong.. I'm straight on where the video card goes and where the jurisdiction chip goes but the only socket i see that the bios chip will fit in is much longer than the bios chip itself so I'm wondering just how is that chip supposed to be installed? Also I'm sure there are some other factors or procedures that I'm not aware of that i could use answers to as well. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

The bios chip on these is a different chip and program than those used on the earlier mpu types. Uses a  27c160 16Mbit Eprom.

Thanks for the info. I assume a new clear card will also be required, guess I'll have to track down those items somewhere. Any thing else I should know? Also, how do I go about upgrading the memory? I want to hot rod it as much as possible.

Based on the photo, looks like you already have the 2 simm slots populated.  If both simms are 1GB each, then you are at the max memory configuration.  These boards usually have "300" level OS and clear. So if you already have a clear 335, you are good to go.  Look for bios AVBBP26SIMPU

Yes both the cards installed say 1g. I'm pleasantly surprised it came that way, I figured I'd have to upgrade it myself. Thanks so much for the bios and os info, I'll look for the particular chip you've recommended.
