Title: CHAM2 EPROM and other questions
Post by: grahamjw on August 11, 2021, 01:36:23 AM
Hello friends,

I have purchased online what was described as a Mikohn standalone progessive controller. The board is labeled as 341-016-10.

On receiving the item I've noticed that the EPROM sockets at U6 and U7 are empty. My knowledge of these things is only slightly above zero so I was hoping someone could advise me if these EPROMs are a vital (and missing) part of the unit?

I've been unable to get it to talk to me over the serial port and I'm wondering if I'm wasting my time!

Thanks

Graham

Do you have PSP ? - its clunky software package to program the progressives.....

You also need a slightly modified serial cable - CTS/RTS shorted I believe. If you go to the Mikohn section there are a ton of posts that describe how to build this in integrate detail.

Hi Jay,

Yes, I've got PSP and the modified serial cable. I was trying to get the CHAM to talk to me over serial using a terminal emulator initially. I've successfully used that method with a Supreme and I was trying the same way with the CHAM. Zero output on the serial interface so far but I only had a brief play with it last night.

Do you know if the missing EPROMs are a dealbreaker for the controller to operate?

Cheers

Graham

Not off hand....
I mostly use LED5's Cham1 with my Con1
I do have a Cham2 that I know works - I bench tested it before I put it in a box - I will dig it out and look at it tonight.

Holy 1989  Mikohn CHAM2 all over again!....I haven't seen these puppies in years!

I had to go dig in my crate and see what I had.

I have two units but mine are different than the one you have pictured.

Yours look even more "senior" than mine!

I want mine to drive some 12 cell displays that I picked up separately and have had kicking around my junk room ever since. I have very little knowledge about the hardware but I've read lots of posts here and on the archive so I'm learning as I go.
