Mike,  probably the 7.5 vac breaker,  should have a yellow and green wire on it coming from the transformer.  unplug J-14 from the backplane , reset the breaker if it does not pop, the you have a button lighting  problem.   if it does pop, then continue unplugging from the backplane until it doesn't pop then we will know what to check out.

unplugging j-14 stopped the breaker popping.  the breaker also has some kind of feed to the dbv-45 bill unit, it now lights up, but red.    i looked closely at the harness, didnt see any wear marks near the door. its has a pretty good plastic armor.
are the button lights DC , and what voltage?  i am assuming the feed is common, and the mpu grounds the lights to light them.   whats the best way to isolate the problem? should i just tear into the bundle and do a physical check?

thanks

The voltage going to the lamps is 7.5vac    NOT DC.    PIN 3  goes to the coin accept lamp, insert coin and denom. lamp.  Blue wire.    Pin 18 Bl/BK wire, goes to change, collect, spin, bet 1, bet max lamps, spare light plug, BV led board.

inspect those two wires, look for a short to the cabinet. or unhook each lamp series and see which one is the problem, then unhook each one until you find the defect.
