Title: Hopper periodically spits extra quarter
Post by: Cleobud on May 22, 2022, 01:25:14 PM
My S+ occasionally spits a quarter back into the tray after play.  Its a 3 coin 1 line quarter machine. It’s as if 4 coins went into play and the machine will spit that 4th extra coin after  play into the tray.  I’ve meticulously watched and  made sure I was not putting a 4th coin in. It’s very random! This just started about a month ago.  I DID clean  the hopper optics out with a Qtip. Any thoughts?  Thanks!

I did read your post and I'm not saying you're doing this (since you explicitly said you're not), but it is possible on an S+ machine to sneak an extra coin in. This is typically done by dropping the final coin for the maximum bet and an extra coin into the machine in very quick succession, before the lockout coil has a chance to engage. When that happens, the machine will allow you to spin the reels with your max bet wager, and then will pay out one coin from the hopper to pay the player back for the extra coin that was accepted.

If you are absolutely, positively not inserting an extra coin, you'll need to investigate why the machine thinks that you are.

Note that it's very difficult to fool the machine into thinking that a coin was inserted when it wasn't, so I'm not sure what to suggest other than cleaning your coin-in optics, and ensuring that the encoder (the plastic piece in the coin-in optics that forces the inserted coin to pass by the optics correctly) is the correct size for the coins you're using.

Another way this can happen without you noticing is that only 2 of 3 coins played on the last spin.
How does this happen?

The two screws that hold the coin slot blockhead onto the top of the deck get loose and although the CC is sitting in the clips, the whole coin mech bracket is off just a tiny, tiny bit slightly sideways - so the last coin that was dropped thru, gets stuck.

Now you go ahead and drop 3 more coins into the slot, but you never see that you pushed the last one down and the last coin you get thru, is the one that the hopper spits back out into the coin tray.  :rotfl:

The way to fix this is to make sure the coin slot blockhead and coin mech bracket is perfectly straight and tightened so the coins fall straight thru into the CC without being obstructed in any way other than the weighted coin lever.
