Hi all, I am new here. I have been playing with Japanese skill stops for a few years now. Recently I bought a Bally 809-zt, it is not in the best of condition. I have cleaned the 2 mouse nests from it and have repaired the chewed wires. I am still having a few electrical issues, I think it is in the leaf switches not making contact. My biggest problem seems that I do not have a hopper. Two questions I have are can it be made to play without the hopper for testing and until I can find one? And does anyone know where I can get a hopper for the 809-zt? BTW I only pages $10 for it!!!

Nice machine for $10.00
Machine will not work with out the hopper.
It may come on, light up and you will be able to see if the wiring is okay.

We have over 30 EM hoppers of various sizes and makes plus about 20 to payout units for EM machines.

The oldest machines I work on are the old Jennings 400 and Bally 5000.

Hopper out of 809-zt nickel machine 1972,
In the photo H1 the hopper appears to be marked 809-a zq, but the ID tag has 809-zt stamped on it.
The main concern would be the beau plug wiring colors matching up.

It looks like the machine was manufactured in mid 1977, according to the tag. As such, I think that the correct the hopper would be "snow" style hopper with the motor behind the coin scoop.

rdaniel, how can you tell it is mid 77? I have been searching all over the net for a S/N list for this and have come up with nothing so far.
What is the difference between a "snow" style hopper and any other one of that era?

Greetings Rekab. If you look on the identification tag on the right side of the machine there is a date stamped on the very top of the black tag. That is the manufacture date.
In 1977 Bally switched to another type hopper. similar to the older type. The new one or as it is called the "snow" had the motor in back of the coin scoop, rather than on the side as in the photos which were send by Badbaud. The "snow" hopper does not have the whiffle ball type coin leveler and the scoop is cast aluminum not stainless steel.

Okay from the information I've gathered I need a Bally snow style Hopper. Next thing does it matter what denomination of money it is for, my machine is a nickel machine will a quarter or dime Hopper work? Not sure what availability there is for any of these Hoppers out there but the machine is useless without it.

If yours is nickle machine you should have a nickel hopper. Hoppers can be converted to many denominations. Quarter to nickel is not a problem. Just need some parts that are designed for a nickel machine.

Located hopper working on nailing down a price.
It appears to be complete and motor runs fine, but need opinions from others on this site.
If your machine has a payout step up unit located elsewhere in the machine, I think this will work, as there is no mechanical step up mechanism
or step up unit on this hopper. ***Step up unit has large spiral cam made of plastic or pot metal.***
Being a newer machine it most likely does fit your machine.
Compare close up of wiring with your machine, it will help determine if this hopper will work.

Looking at the photo of Rekab's 809 JPO, it appears that the type of hopper he requires would have the counter unit (with the spiral) attached to the rear and part of the hopper unit itself.

David.. If you look at the picture in #5, his machine has a 30 pin beau plug for the hopper in the cabinet.. That would make be believe he needs a hopper with the payout disk and spiral cam on the hopper...
