Local Auction in Virginia, I left an absentee bid of 350.00, I had to be in Indianapolis to pick up another machine, guess I under estimated , they told me the machine did not work so i figured I was safe at that level, wrong, I was told that it went for 600 +

Wish I could find a few more EM Bally's around here. When they do pop up they are usually the standard machines, 831, 809, 873, and 1090. You hardly ever see ones like that.

Being new to Bally EM's any rule of thumb price wise for 809, 831, 873, 742a for complete machines no broken glass?

Hard to say. Prices depend a lot on location.

Watch for machines on Craigslist. I’ve averaged out the price on all the machines I bought over the past 2 years. It’s right around $160.00 each. Most were machines that were barely running or not at all.
If you want a machine that is in good running condition, they average $450. in So-Cal.
Preferably I like to buying machines that need some cleaning and repair.
Best bet is to check the Craigslist in your area and or any other local sites that sell stuff.

David Lee is Right, you can find decent machines in the 150.00 - 200.00 range or less, I have bought them as cheap as 50.00 for a run down 1090 to 135.00 I just bought a Continental for. If you check craigslist in your area you will see prices all over the board but if you are patient you can find them cheap... Some will only need minor work, while others, well I am still working on some but that is half the fun. Happy Hunting....

Finding EM's on Craigslist can be a real challenge. They just do not come up that often.

You don't See EMs as often as say IGTs or Bally E series machines, you have to be willing to travel . I live in North Carolina and I have been to Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, New York City, Upstate NY, Pennsylvania, New Jersey all in the last 3 months, most are down and back trips, makes for a long day but worth it. I just went to Indianapolis, left friday night drove all night picked up a Bally Continental for 135.00 and drove back home, long day but well worth it

if you want some decent machines you can't wait for them to come to you, you are going to have to go and get them.....

How true. Often the best buys are hundreds of miles away. I am picky about the machines I purchase. A photo can be very deceptive. A  nice looking machine in the photo can turn out to be a real disappointment.  Damaged cabinet, glass that is difficult to replace, etc. I have traveled hundreds of miles and been very disappointed at the machine once seen in person..

I usually ask for more photos, but sometimes if the machine is only 100.00 I figure that for that price I can always part it out and get my money back. Chasing them down is half the fun, but I Know what you mean, have been disappointed myself on several trips....
