Title: Need assistance with Miss Piggy Bangign Banking
Post by: baseball_lvr on November 25, 2018, 08:50:19 AM
I was given this slot last week and they told me it did not work.  Just wanna want to find out if this slot is worth fixing.  Looks in great shape but from the research I have done so far it looks like it is missing the upper dot matrix pwr supply as well as the board located on top of the standoffs on the distribution board.  Does this slot look worth fixing and does it look like I'm missing additional parts?  thx in advance.

This machine is definitely missing both the upper power supply and lower power supply board that connects to the board in the box with the 5 big compacitors. You may also be missing some harnesses to connect these. You can buy after market power supplies or try to find original power supplies. Cost probably 80-100 for the power supplies if you can find the originals. The main issue really is, does the dot matrix display work? If not, I personally would not invest money into this machine. The DMD displays are hard to find and if you could find one would be very expensive. Let me know if you have any other questions.

How can I verify if the dot matrix works or not?

Big Bang Piggy Bankin' (no "Miss") is a great game.  The power supplies in these machines were always the weak point -- there's documentation here in a sticky topic in this thread on how to replace the factory power supplies with an aftermarket power supply (here (http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=4404.0)).

There are additional topics of interest in the old archive site, too, which you can find here (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?board=64.0).

If you have the glass, reel strips, and chips, I'd say it's definitely worth giving it a shot.  You have a nice game there.

UPDATE - I haver completed the upper power supply atx conversion and vola  The dot matrix screen came on perfectly went through the rom's and ended up on the Williams screen.   Now I  have one more question as I start the lower power supply conversion, since the internal power supply of my lower supply is gone and I only have the distribution board where am I gonna get the 20v needed because the ATX does not output this voltage lever.

I completed the lower power supply conversion last night and hooked it all up and everything seems to be working except the button lights.   The lights behind the reels light when you get a jackpot.  What board supplies the 20v needed?  I do not have the power supply board thats sits in the lower power supply on top of the distribution board?  Do I need this for the 20v or can I supply the 20v with an additional ps?

The 20v you need does not come from the power supply you're missing. It's actually generated from what you're calling the distribution board which you still have. The 20v comes out on pin 6 and 7 of your power supply cable. I would check for voltage with a multimeter at the power supply first. If you don't read 20v, there are a few capacitors and a bridge rectifier that could be suspect. I have 8 dotmation machines and have only ever replaced 1 bridge rectifier. Good luck. You're almost there!!!

Sorry just got back from out of town.  I'm a little confused on where I am to check for this voltage reading.  You said the voltage is coming from the distribution board but you them said it is coming from my power supply which is the atx ps which  only supplies only 5 and 12,  thx for the help in advance.

Maybe the picture will help. The 20 volts still comes from the distribution board and not the atx power supply you added.

There is two fuses soldered to that board as well. F1 and F2. Check them. replace cap C5. That is for the 20 volt power.
