Title: Alpha Pro 2 super crown topper
Post by: rydiez on March 06, 2019, 10:36:10 AM
Good Morning,

The attached topper, which I believe they call a Crown Super, is on eBay with a pretty reasonable price.
Is this simply a matter of plugging in the cables or is there more to it? I.e do I need to swap out boards, chips etc? Currently I have the traditional screen topper that we usually see on these machines. This would be going on a V22/32.

Lastly, does anybody know the height to the top of the candle?

Thank you in advance.

You will need an LCU board with A07 or A08 firmware.  Check the label on your LCU to see what firmware is on it.  Typically these machines are not shipped with an LCU with A07 or A08 firmware.  Bottom of the monitor to tip of the candle is about 21".  The crown topper plugs in the same way as your existing topper so other than the correct LCU, nothing else is required.

Idesign,

Thank you for the quick response. Would the fact that my current topper has the super candle that works indicate I have the appropriate board/firmware? I really don’t even know where to begin looking for the LCU board and the thought of messing with my perfectly running 22/32 scares me.

Is this my current LCU? This is a board on the left side panel of the machine behind the 22”
Screen.

That is your LCU board. Based on the label, you have firmware A03, if you connect your topper, all you will get is blinking lights everywhere.  You need to acquire an LCU board with A07 or A08 firmware.

Great thank you Rick! Looks simple enough to swap out. I’ll be keeping my eye out for it in the classifieds.

Thanks again!
