Title: Universal Magnificent 7 Super Jackpot issues
Post by: jelliott1967 on October 01, 2019, 07:25:21 AM
I just picked up this machine late last week.  I was told it operated the last time they had it on but its had been sitting unused for quite a time in their finished basement.  It lights up and has static coming through the speakers.

Ive researched the machine and motherboard issues on this site.  I'm confident the battery is toast.  It is brown on the end under the plastic wrap that appears to hold the cells together.  The board had a little corrosion by the battery.  I've cleaned it and the surrounding areas with alcohol.  While I had it out I pulled the roms, checked for corrosion on each, and reseated them.  Upon holding the reset buttons and turning the machine back on I'm seeing either a single led lighting or all 4 leds blinking at the same time.

I've also checked different plugs and cables for bad connections.  When checking one plug behind the hopper all lights and reels were energized but only when the plug was barely touching the pins and wiggled just right.

My first question is...would the bad battery cause the motherboard not to boot properly or are there other reasons I should explore?

Thanks!  Looking forward to getting it going!

Also, I'm not getting any readouts on the LCD displays until I unplug and wiggle the plug behind the hopper.  They it's just all "8"s  on each display....a

Update - I pulled the motherboard and found that I had a bent prong on one of the eproms. Once I straightened it I was able to reset and only had three errors showing.  After a couple of ROM clears I'm down to a number 13 error. It shows Insert Coins but the coins weren't recognized. I repositioned the optic on the coin Mech but it still isn't recognizing coins being inserted.

Should be two optics below coin mech.
You can open door, pull the white cherry switch out and set the door lock. The insert coin light should then come on.
Drop coins through optics and see if the small red LED's on optics blink.

Thanks Uniman.  I had to adjust the lower optic on the coin mech and now its accepting tokens!

The 2 issues Im experiencing now are no sound (just static) and the handle doesn't start the reels.  I know there is a test for the handles and I havent tried cleaning the optic switches yet.

Any suggestions?

All kinds of reasons why the handle doesn't work.
