Title: IGT model 96400300 help needed
Post by: dbpbandit on August 14, 2020, 12:59:53 PM
Hello, I need some help please. I started off with to units, both are IGT model 96400300  "Double Wild Cherry" and the same model "Triple Diamond", both not working. Triple Diamond had an error 12 and the Cherry had an error 61.

I initially started working on Cherry with no success getting the 61 cleared. So I moved onto the Diamond. The Cherry had a new battery someone had out in so I took that one out and placed it in the Diamond. When I booted up the Diamond, it gave me an error 61 and once I cleared it, everything worked great. Now back to the Cherry...

After I located a new battery I replaced the one O took from it for the Diamond. After the battery replacement, it gave me the error 61. I followed the steps as before an tried to clear it. press test button until 61_1 appears, close door (all the way) turned reset key once. But it didn't clear it. NOW, when it shows error 61 and I press the test button, it no longer gives me the 61_1. It seems like it's stuck an another mode or something? What am I doing wrong? I do not have a clear chip and neither did the previous owner so that has not been done. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you. -David

Fist thing I would try is
Pull the cmos chip( next to the game chip) for 10 seconds and replace. Be careful not to bend any prongs or turn the chip upside down.check the notch on the chip.
Replace and try to clear that way. If that does not work you will need to do a clear chip procedure.

Hey folks, quick update and more questions.
So I ended up having to use the clear chip to resolve the error 61 I was having. Now that the 61 has cleared, I have a new problem. For some reason I keep getting an error 41,42 and 46. I can clear it, play a few games and then I get the errors again. I have tried switching the reals, cleaning the connectors, etc. but still getting these errors. Sometimes I can play  or more spins, sometimes it errors out on start up. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Make sure the reels spin freely (they don't rub against the door or player display).  If anything obstructs the reels from spinning freely, you get those type of errors.

With the door open, push the little white button just under the coin comp. Each push will add a credit up to max. With door still open push spin and watch reels. Let us know

OK, I will give that another try but I checked for obstructions already. I didn't try adding coins and spinning them with the door open yet. Also, I pulled each real out and made sure they spun freely and also made sure the optics were clean. Thanks, I will update once I have a chance to check this again.

This will let you know if it is the door. You will get reel errors if optics fault during a spin

Very interesting, I have that exact same issue, I recently got a Sizzling 7's up and running and all of a sudden I will get a 41 or 42 error code (mostly 42). Reset it and play a few games, and then its back.

Change the two large capacitors nearest to the power in header on the MPU board.

Top left corner of the board are 5 resistors, each one representing a reel. You will note that 3 of them will have some scorching while the other 2 are brand new.
That is because you have a 3 reel game..(and not a 5 reel).. you can use one of the other two to replace anything totally fried or purchase some new ones.

The correct method of troubleshooting this.....

1. Ensure no obstructions and the reels are in the baskets well.
2. Swap reels around and see if the problem moves with the reel baskets.
ie If your getting a 41, swap reel baskets 1 & 3 and see if the problem turns into a 43

Alternatively .... If you have a spare MPU board swapping MPUs will determine if its with the reel baskets / chassis or with the MPU.
3. If the problem doesn't move check for the burnt resistors as I outlined.
4. If the 4(1,2,3)  errors are more or less random address the transistors.
