Title: Possible game maker no display
Post by: Phan000 on November 07, 2021, 11:00:58 AM
Got a PE+  with some working machines yesterday.

Powers up, bill validator cycles, green lights on mpu.

Nothing else.  Screen is black, no static from screen.  Buttons dark, and coins drop.

I replaced the battery, not sure how else to begin.

Screen may be bad, but I don’t think the machine is booting up properly.

The first thing that I see wrong is that for a PE+ that is more than 30 years old - it looks too clean inside.   :rotfl:

On a serious note ....
The monitor could be bad but but having no static would tell me its not getting power

Starting with the basics - pull the fuses and check them with a multi-meter
- set the meter on ohms and touch the leads together - the needle will bounce over showing continuity, next touch the leads to each end of the fuse and it should do the same thing. No swing on the meter, no continuity = bad fuse.

On the PE+ the  monitors slide in and out - big connector on the back.
you just transported this unit so it may have been jarred around a bit.
I would start by pulling the monitor and sliding it back in.

If the MPU battery is bad then the screen would display - Battery Low. Of course if the battery has leaked all over the MPU then there may be other issues other than the battery being end of life.

You have some lights on the side of the MPU - good sign - theoretically the game could play without a monitor, but if the coins are just falling through then my first thought is that there is no coin in the coin comparator on the door.

Post back.....

I think that's a Bally Gamemaker.  The pic is of a Bally MPU board.

Yep.

It is definitely a Bally & I need my eyes checked ;)

Same problem anyhow. Guess I need to post over there instead.

I’ve put a PC monitor on a gamemaker before.  I guess that will be the last resort.

Turned out nice, but hate to loose the touchscreen.

No worries we can move the post - my suggested first steps remain the same.

When you tried the monitor was the Molex connector underneath the shelf plugged into it?

Yes it was.

Is this machine a gamemaker or something else?

Both of my game makers have touchscreen.  This one has glass window in front
Of the screen.

How do I test the fuses on this machine.  I’m not familiar with the re-curl-it fuses.

Also,  can I swap monitors with the gamemaker on the right side of the photos for testing purposes?

I tried a known working monitor  from a game maker in that machine.  Brief flash on power off, but nothing else.  Wiring looks different, so guessing it’s not a gamemaker

Green lights on mpu, DBV and coin mech both have power as well as functional lighting.

I don’t see any loose connections.

Can the re-cirk-it fuses be replaced and or tested?
