Title: Universal Video poker 8304
Post by: Jimise on June 17, 2014, 07:02:10 PM
A friend of mine asked me if I could take a look at his "Bally" poker machine.
Well it turns out it is a Universal 8304 poker machine. It quit working about 3 months ago.
I have never worked on any Uni machines, so I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.
The machine does turn on, and has a "ram error" on the screen, and also the numbers 10 & 41 as well.
Any help with this would be appreciated!  :thank_you:

Try doing a ram reset, I didn't reply because I was thinking someone more advanced would be helping you out, you should have a push button on the motherboard, press it and then power on the machine, then release it 3-5 sec afterwards. If that doesn't help, it could be a bad eprom.

With machine off, open the door and right in front, in the middle, top, of the green mpu case is a round hole a little bigger than a quarter. In the hole is a miniature toggle switch (no button). Push the toggle back and hold it while powering the machine on. Wait about three seconds and release. This clears the ram.
If it does not correct the problem then there is trouble with the board, most likely not the eproms. I've had a couple like this, one from Joey, and could not find the problem. But I'm not a board expert. Finding a good 8304 board is very, very difficult. Hope the ram clear works!

Samm & Jim,
Thanks for the information!
I'm going to stop by this weekend and give that a try.

Just an update on the Universal machine.
I gave my friend the instructions on the ram clear.
I'm not sure what caused the problem in the first place, but the ram clear worked,
and the machine is up & running.   we will see how long it lasts!
Samm & Jim, Thanks again for the help!
Jim.
