Title: Goldfish2 / BB2 Boot Issue
Post by: PinJim on February 18, 2024, 10:26:36 AM
I am the somewhat proud owner of a Goldish2.

Sometimes, it fails to boot. The machine hangs on the “Configuration in Progress” screen. I tried turning jackpot (brass) key to see if I could enter diagnostics, but it has zero effect. I tried that with the cabinet door open and closed.

How can I determine what’s causing it to hang?

One thing I did notice; the bottom-left “play x credits per line” button has a red LED illuminated on it. Not sure if that’s normal or not.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Is the machine under warranty?
If so, call the seller and inform them what's going on with your machine.
Maybe they can replace that button with the red LED stuck on.
That button with the red LED...not good...this is what may be going on...>>>

The button deck is checking and verifying how it's configured.
It wants to make sure you have the settings right for the button deck....such as the type and number of buttons onboard.
The individual button circuit boards are supposed to memory check/verify themselves for the correct firmware as well.
The button LEDs flash on+off, moving to the next spot every 7 seconds...when done sequencing all the way around the button, the machine goes to the next step.
However, normally all these LED checks are performed somewhat at around the same time.
A button board that has only one single red LED stuck ON is signifying something's possibly fatally wrong with it , or maybe a fault with the large blue button deck circuit board that all the buttons are plugged into underneath.
It couldn't complete all the checks and froze.

Another thing that makes BB2's freeze up is something is overheating.
When you turn ON the machine, are all the fans are spinning?
There's normally six of them running and many are over 10yrs old.
There's a large fan on the right hand side of the MPU, a small 2" fan on top of the Adastra board, a large 4" fan left of the Bose sound speakers, and another large 4" fan on the left hand side of the topbox.
Also, there is a fan in the touchscreen monitor and a fan in the topbox LCD monitor.
Any stuck fan that's NOT turning, causes power problems and overheating.
It's mind boggling how many fans are running in a casino...just ten BB2's equals 60 fans spinning....lol

Thanks for the feedback. The machine is no longer under warranty, unfortunately.

I suspect you’re right about the OLED deck being the problem. To further that thought, the game has lost communication with the deck a few times during gameplay.

Any idea where I can get a static button deck? I have the clear card and am capable of reconfiguring the machine.

The machine has been my most problematic. I’ll likely fix and sell it.

I'll be honest, I just saw some static decks available online for like around $75 bucks apiece, but I don't NOT remember where I saw that....lol
How about placing a WTB ad up in the Classifieds section of NLG?
Maybe one of our members will have one to sell you?

If you source a static button deck, just be aware that some games will not work with it.  If I only had bb2 machine, I would source a known working oled deck, even one with dim/dark screens if you want to pay less, those should be relatively easy to to source under 200.

I believe Goldfish 2 has a static deck option when setting up the game.

Honestly the game pisses me off. Anyone want a Goldfish for a good price? Lol
