Title: Looking for info on the BB3 Stepper Machines
Post by: PapaB on February 27, 2024, 03:33:29 AM
I found what I believe to be a pretty good deal on a BB3 Stepper game but I don't know much about them and there's not a lot of info out there...I have never owned a WMS machine of any kind...
Does anyone here own one or ever had one?
Are they reliable machines?
Are they difficult to service?
Are different game kits available?
Any info at all would be helpful...

The machines are reliable and easy to service.  There are some kits available, but they don't come up for sale often.  Unfortunately for us Blade fans, the platform was not out for too long before the whole merger with Bally and consolidation under SG.  Shortly after that, the blade was discontinued in favor of a "unified" cabinet that could play both platforms, but in doing so, the Blades were retired.  So there was not enough time for the blade stepper to grow in numbers like the previous bb2 transmissive steppers did before it.  Because of that blade stepper kits are harder to come by.  By now,  most casinos have retired their blade steppers.  The one good outcome is that most blade cabinets out in the secondary market are in extraordinary shape as they had a relatively short service life in the casinos.

Thanks Rick...I have quite a few S2000 machines and I just bought an S3000...
I am looking to replace some of my S2000's with some newer machines and I'm looking for recommendations...The Blade Stepper is one, I am also looking at a G23, and maybe a Bally Alpha 1 or 2
Any suggestions are welcome....

Right now, the Alpha 2 pro 22/22 would be my choice, since you can convert to ARGOS and run some of the newer SG software that are currently in casinos like Dancing Drums, Lock it Link it, and various other play mechanics.  On top of the original "legacy" games that it will play like various quick hit themes, etc, it will also run 22/32 games (top screen sideways).  A very versatile platform for home use.

Thanks again Rick...
I'm looking for the coolest games around now, I'll check those out...
The S3000 I got is a Spinferno and it is an awesome game...
What is your experience with the G23's...they seem to be pretty popular too but the games don't look all that exciting...
I actually have an opportunity to get a Bally Alpha 2 V22 converted to a V32 Firelink but it is blowing fuses and the owner wants to get rid of it cheap...I may grab that machine if I can get it for the right price but I have no idea how to service or repair those machines...

Depends on how much modification and cutting was involved in getting that 32 inch monitor to fit into the 22/22 cabinet.  I've seen some where the cabinet is pretty much trashed and others where there was minimal cutting.  I wouldn't get the cabinet unless I was able to convert it back to a 22/22.  Those "conversions" were made because the firelinks were everywhere in "arcades" but there were not enough real A2 Pro V32 machines around, so people got creative.  If it keeps shorting, it probably has to do with the way they mounted the monitor.  There may be damage to some harnesses that is causing the short.

Yeah, I haven't gotten eyes on it yet, but that was my first thought too...I guess they've had it for a year or 2 and then it just started blowing fuses...the monitor mounted in it is a flatscreen not curved like the cabinet itself and it doesn't look too bad from the pictures...
Anywhere else I should look for a short? They said they had the power supply replaced and that didn't solve it...

Shorts are typically harnesses.  I wouldn't think it would be damaged backplane or power backplane, those are kind of rare.  Does the fuse blow up immediately at power up?

Yes, it blows almost immediately...

It's probably some power harness somewhere.
