Compile MAME solely for PEPlus games
(1/2) > >>
Crash0:
I have been trying to figure out how to compile a version of MAME for the purpose of running just the PEPlus roms. So far absolutely no luck in doing this. I have the files, such as MinGW, MAME source, and extras. I am also trying to do away with nag screen, which is a patch. This is all a project I'm working on, and any help in achieving this would be appreciated.

I've done this many times. so what exactly are you trying to do? You have a dedicated cabinet for it so when you turn it on, it will boot straight to the peplus roms?

What I've done in the past is use a front end, customize it looking like the pe roms, and then just list them out so the player can choose which one he wants to play.

I wired a switch for on and off, and just had it when I pushed the switch it would turn the pc on...and the windows screen would be hidden...it would boot straight into the front end....and if I recall correctly....on the peplus roms theres a multi game rom which has like 5 different games in it....I figured out how to modify your dat file to give you alo t of credits...its actually on the old site....I put a topic of how to do it.

I have a dedicated Cab, old PCs and monitors, basically just need Ipac to run controls to buttons. But I would like to compile a very light version of mame. for this purpose. I know about the frontends and basically how they work and the mini mame is more of an academic venture.(I'm very curious that way). I'm also going to run a stripped version of XP and use smallest HDD I have laying around. I may still want to use a frontend any recommendations on that?
BrianT:
When you compile the program, go into /mame/src/mame and open mame.lst with a text editor. Copy all games names from peset001 through pexmp030. Now rename the mame.lst to mame_full.lst and open a new text file and paste into it the PE+ game names. Save the new file as mame.lst

Compile as you would any MAME version (32bit, 64bit with or without GUI)

You should end up with a file from 5-8megs that has only the PE+ games in it.

You can weed out some of the clones as long as you keep the parent file.  IE: For a game like say the Triple Double Bonus Poker series. You can delete pex2310p & pex2307p and just keep pex2306p which has the highest return.  If you work at it, you can get it down to one game of each type always keeping the highest payout version to play. I mean do you really need 30 versions of Deuces Wild Poker or just the one that pays the best.  Each version plays the same but has different payouts. That's what I would do if I wanted just a MAME poker cab.
