Title: New Double Diamond machine issues.
Post by: gameking6 on June 01, 2021, 10:36:36 PM
I picked up a new (to me) Double Diamond machine. When I turn it on all the lights work and I can hear the bill acceptor initiate but the reels don't spin when I close the door and the coins go directly to the coin tray. I removed and reset the hopper, bill acceptor and unplugged and re-pluged the main board. When I turned it on and closed the door the reels spun and it accepted coins and worked....ONE time then it went back to what it did beforeā˜¹. What should I be looking for? There are no error codes. No burn marks on the power cable and the reels don't free-wheel if I try to turn them.
Also would I be able to swap a WBA-13 in this machine (the existing cash box is tweaked)? I have a new WBA-13 with the frame and cash box.

Any info you can also give me about this machine in general is also appreciated.

Picture of credit button on optics board.

If it worked once and no error code displayed - sounds like it is ready to play the next game. If the coin is just going to the coin tray and not putting credit on machine and sending to the hopper - most likely the 'rake' on the coin comparator is not energized as the LED is not on either, only comes on with the door closed or when doing test in the menus. Most likely a bad wire or connection on the white connector that supplies power to the coin comparator, see picture. Check that wiring/cable and see if you can get it to work, then repair the the wire(s) that is probably bad.

I just repaired wires on that connector recently.

I think you can do the WBA-13 swap but someone else could say for sure and what you would need to complete it.

There's a sticky FAQ post on the forum for the S+ that goes over all these issues.  You probably have this one.

The S+ Can use a DBV45, DBV145, DBV200, WBA11,12, or 13.

Bill Validators use different protocols for different machines.
So a WBA12 for a Bally is going to be a different protocol for a IGT
This is usually dip switch selectable.....

When you apply power the validator will grind and moan and go through all its self tests but it may not work until its activated.
The bezel should be lit up if its activated if not you will need a SET chip.
If you are buying a SET chip also get a CLEAR chip.
Please see Ricks FAQs on our home page to see the details on how to use of the SET chip.
You rarely need a Clear chip but if your buying the postage is usually more than the chip so get both at the same time.

The SET Chip basically tells the validator how many credits for a buck. IF you SET it as a 0.25 denomination then you get 4 credits, if you set it to be 0.01 you get 100....
There is no relation between this and what coins the machine actually use.

Depending on what software is in the validator, will determine what bills it accepts. US money has evolved over time and IGT cut investment in the S+ so the best you can get is all bills but the new colored 100's
When testing the machine its best to start with a $1 and go from there. The same validator, same software under a different protocol such as used for the S2000 machine will accept all monies, they just never updated the software for the S+ protocol.

Just following through - you reseated the power it played once then stopped again....If the power harness is giving you issues which it sounds like it is - the easiest test is to see if the reels are stiff.
When power is off on the machine you can easily spin the reels, when its on it will be stiff - you can still turn them but you will feel them turn knotch by knotch of the stepper motor.

So if the power harness is not making a good connection - lights will be on, but the reels will not be energized and still loose.
Usually when the power harness is loose the 25C denomination symbol in the center of the reel glass is not on and the flashing insert coin is not on either.

Assuming loose.....

Clean the pins on the motherboard with a white eraser, some people use a pen knife or small piece of sand paper on the sides of the pins where the eraser might not go to remove any oxidation.
I have also heard about people bending the pins a bit, but I certainly don't recommend it.  The two outside ones get bent outwards, and the two inside ones, front and back. Just to make better contact.
I would replace the power harness rather than bending pins.

Like I mentioned in the first post it doesn't appear to be the power cable (in fact it looks new the machine had been gone thru 2 years ago) No burn marks on the power cable and the reels don't free-wheel if I try to turn them. There are no error codes but the LEDs are functioning.

Can you get into the menu and test the 'lockout' #34. That 'lockout' test will turn on the CC LED and energize the 'lockout' (rake).
The 'diverter' test is right before that test #33, it does the overflow solenoid to send coins to the overflow when the hopper is full. (Not your problem at the moment just info)

How do I get to the menu? Do I need a chip and if so what chip do I need?

There is the white button that steps you through all the menus.  No chips needed.
SET chip is used for Bill Validator and some times progressive settings (you don't have a progressive) so this is not an issue for you at this time.

I will defer you back to Ricks FAQs on the first page - there is detailed instructions on how to display your game and reel chip.
This should get you familar with the use of the menus.
Others will give you instructions on how to get to the various tests.

In reply #1, picture #1,  with the door open, pressing that tiny white button should put a credit on the machine and allow you to play it with the door open.
if the machine operates as it should doing this, then you problem lies in the cc-16 and associated circuit.

try this and report back what happens or what does not happen.

let me know what you have, and I will let you know what else you will need!

I carry all the parts you would need!

I went thru the FAQ before I posted this and there was no answer to my specific problem.
Jim thank you I will hit you up on the WBA once I get the unit working.
When I push the little white button it doesn't give me any credits.

So Just to be clear that we are talking about the right white button.
This is the micro sized button on the small square optics board in the door mounted directly below the coin comparator ......

Is the denomination light on in the center of the reel glass ?
When you close your door do the reels spin once ?

I got it going😀. I cleaned the contacts on the hopper. It appeared the machine thought the hopper was empty. Now the reels spin when I close the door, the white button adds credit when I push it. And it works perfectly.
THANK YOU GUYS so much for your time and ideas. I would never have been able to get it going without your help.
Jim what do you need me to send you pictures of so we can get the bill acceptor to work?
