Title: Sigma 32? doesnt start
Post by: intercast on September 20, 2020, 02:09:31 PM
Hey Guys,
i recently bought a broken Sigma Slot Machine. I'm not quite sure which model it is. The only thing that turns on when i plug it in are the florescent tubes and the red light of the Coin Comparator. None of the other lamps (coin in, tilt,...) turns on and there is also no sound. I checked the Battery/ Capacitor and the three Power Supplies. They are all working correctly. I also connected the 5 Volt input of the Motherboard to another power supply. It draws around 1.3 Amp at 5,3 Volts.

Does anyone of you have an idea what might be the Problem.

Greetings from Germany
(and sorry for my bad English)

Welcome and your English is just fine.
Have you checked EVERY cable from the power supply as well as other interconnected cables from the motherboard to the MPU?
I'm not a Sigma person but's that's where I'd start after checking the p/s and fuses.
Wait ... have you checked all the fuses? Check them with a meter to make sure. I've had fuses break inside the caps where you can't see the wire.

Considering the age of the board I would suggest removing every chip in a socket and cleaning the legs of the chip with a ink eraser till shiny.
After you check all of the fuses.

Thanks for your helpful answers. I tested every fuse with a Multimeter. They are all OK. I also checked the wiring. I did that by soldering wires to the input plugs of the I/O Board. Then i measured the Voltage on the Wires. All 4 Voltages are correct and i don't see any fuses on the I/O Board. So it seems that there is not a Fault on the Power Supplies or wiring.
I also removed every chip in a socket and cleaned the contacts. I even sanded the Contacts slightly.
Still no change. The Machine is still doing nothing.
Could it be that the MPU is missing on this machine? Or do these Sigma machines only have one Board with the MPU and the Motherboard on it?

There is usually a small control way back in the right corner of the board. It is used for zero cross detect.
If it is not adjusted just right the game won't come up.

Reading this I'm a bit confused.  You said you tested the power supply output, but did you actually get the 3 voltages 5v, 12v, 24v? Pretty sure I remember those right?

I remember I had a sigma that had the 3 outputs, but we're a little off, ie not calibrated.  On the power supply itself, previous member said adjust the voltages on the power supply, did you do that?  Are they all spot on?

Ever get it working?
