IGT Fortune 1 - Wiring Hacks - Need Help
« on: August 19, 2022, 08:29:56 PM »
Hello!

Picked up this IGT Fortune 1 project game and I'm trying to figure out the correct way this game should be wired (previous owner and pet mouse had their way with it).

I've labeled my pics and hoping I can see pics of other people's machines.  Also, feel free to tell me to throw this in a dumpster and run...but thought I would try here first :)

1 - should this connector go to anything? (behind monitor, but I can't find molex header pins)
2 - are these yellow/black wires to the top light? (missing)
3 - where does the 120v power for the monitor come in from? (chassis says G07-FBO-A)
4 - black/yellow wires on chassis board (go to where?)
5 - All these small colored wires are cut - this is the monitor molex on the bottom of the tray.  What should these connect to?
6 - Frazzled mess of red, white, black wires.  Coming off this connector on the left, but where do they go?

TIA!

There are a few of us here that can probably help put some of this back together with you.
Some of those wires do not look original to me so we might need to do this one bite at a time.
My F1 is a blackjack machine so it might be a bit different. I will open mine up Saturday morning and see if anything matches. Sorry I can’t look tonight, my machine is in the garage and blocked by a car. Mine also has no molex type connectors so we might need you to follow one wire and tell us exactly where it goes, which board, etc.

Thank you!  Agree - someone has hacked in wires of other colors, which does not help, then they just stop.

Regarding the monitor power, didn’t you say the molex connector goes to your monitor? It looks like 7 wires to me.
It would be something like R,G,B, ground,  Sync (yellow or gray) then white & black or two black.n. The last two are 120v.
I don’t recall exactly where they pull power but it might go through the transformer for isolation. You can check to see if two wires are hot when the machine is powered on, does the monitor power up when connected?

I didn't realize power came in through that molex to the monitor.  I'm used to arcade monitors where there is a dedicated two pin molex.  Hence my confusion when I saw two black wires with stripped ends at the back of the chassis (#3 in the pics).

I will test the two wires on that connector to see if they are 120v AC when machine is on.   Currently, the monitor does nothing when powered up.  I may try and pull the monitor out and plug back in the molex connector (if there's power to it) to see if I can see any neck glow.

Fortune Coin had 3 or 4 lives. User Badbaud can probably narrow this machine down a bit. Yours has IGT labels but still has the micro-pin ribbon connectors it is probably early IGT shortly after they acquired the brand.
My machine is pre-IGT but post Sircoma. Here are some pictures that might or might not help. My suggestion is for you to tell us where one of the wire looms goes exactly, attach a picture and we can tell you where the other end goes. One loom at a time.

My monitor is powered by the wire block mounted on the back wall, the power wires join up to the image wires from the top board in the middle and one complete bundle goes to the monitor connector. Mine has a Trinitron TV monitor. Yours might have been changed or was different altogether from the beginning.

Thanks for all the pics! I am getting 136.8v AC at the white/black and black/white wires that feed into the molex connector under the monitor shelf. I need to trace where those two wires go and see if they even make it to the monitor.

I also noticed there are two power cords IN the machine separate from the power cord powering the machine. One I believe should be there (short cord for accessory power like a soldering iron). The other is a longer power cord.

Is the first step to try and get the monitor going so we can see what is being displayed?  If so, should we start with the cut micro-pin ribbon cable?  If yours doesn't have this zip tied to the monitor molex, then I'll chase down where the other end plugs into.

Thanks!

Take a look at my third pic, To the right you see a big round power cord plugged into receptacle power cord, then the two are taped together. I don’t know why they did that but it seems fairly common. We have to keep in mind that these machines were designed for casinos and the original design might have allowed a foreign power source, maybe it was a modular cord system. Many machines do have additional outlets for a light or soldering iron.
The monitor can be checked relatively easily by someone who has a little experience. Usually if it powers on you will hear it.
If the monitor needs an isolation transformer do not plug it directly into the wall outlet directly. If you don’t understand that my suggestion is to get someone who has some experience.

Im thinking the cut ribbon was replaced by the loom of heavier wire and they simply bound them together.

136v seems high. You do need to trace those two wires.

I’m somewhat familiar with isolation transformers from working on arcade monitors.  I’ll double check the incoming voltage at the wall as well to ensure around 120v.

I’ll keep digging in and post back. Thanks

Oh good, same thing. We have to be careful when we don’t know what a person’s knowledge base is.
I would spend a little time and wee where that 136v is coming from.

Cleaned it up a bit and was able to see that that the two wires for the monitor power were never attached to the monitor.  I'm not sure what the connection is supposed to be, but I believe it goes to the black power cord in the pic? (red circle...yes I did put wire nuts on these).  I measured power at the outlet and get 120.5vAC.  I measured at the two lugs on the isolation transformer sending power to the monitor and I get 137.5vAC.

Good news is monitor came on.  If I push the "hold" lights, the LED pattern changes on the interconnect (?) board with the 4 LED's.  I removed the MPU board, reseated all socketed chips and did pencil eraser to the edge connector. No change with what’s displayed on the screen. The screen image does change if I trigger the coin switch.

I still have random loose or cut wires.  I also have this second power cord in the back right of the machine that is zip tied to the coin door switch wires (gray and white) and the whole bundle terminates at a black connector that is unplugged.

Here are some more pics.

Getting the monitor to work is important. I think those random characters on screen indicate a problem with the game board. I am not the most experienced at how this is wired but the 136v line coming from the transformer concerns me unless someone specifically says that is normal. I think a typical isolation transformer used in games is 1:1, 120 in 120 out. Its job is to isolate not increase voltage. I will measure mine tomorrow.
As for the red and black wires we need you to tell us where they go.
Isn’t that big loom with the connector the original monitor connector?
I now suspect someone was in the process of changing the monitor and never finished.

The red, black, white wires in my hand are coming off the red connector at the top left of that pic. I’m not sure what that small board is called. “P9” is written on board next to connector.

I’m referring to the big power cord with gray loom that terminates at a strange  black connector. That’s the original monitor plug?  My monitor is a G07 and I can’t find a place for that black connector anywhere.

Picked up this project draw poker in hopes it would help me fix the other one. Are game boards swappable?
