Title: Psuedo Coin Button not working
Post by: mateo107 on July 03, 2017, 04:36:39 PM
SO, I had to replace a dead Psuedo Coin button on my Bally S5500.  I believe everything is soldiered properly.  I get the same type of readouts on my multimeter when I turn the game on for both psuedo coin and test button.

Anyone have any tips as to what else i can check, either with the button pressed or not?

I had the board working with a temporary switch and for some reason when I put a factory type switch back in, now it doesn't work properly.

It's the same part number as the originals.  Just wondering what else I should check, i.e., where should i test with my multimeter when the button is in normal state, versus pressed state to make sure my connections are correct.

Thanks.

If it is a pushbutton switch then something to check is if it is a "Normally Open" or a "Normally Closed" type of switch. They make both kinds and they look the same, but are different inside. Your machine probably (but you will want to verify this) wants a Normally Open switch, and when you press it the switch contacts close. Take a look at the temporary switch that was working ok, figure out if it is an NO or a NC type of switch and that will tell you what type the machine needs. If you put the wrong style switch in then it won't work.

The board has a internal ground plane. If you pulled out the ground feed through (connected to common (C) on switch) when you removed the old one then the switch will not work.
Check to see if C is actually connected to logic ground. If not run a jumper from C to the nearest logic ground.
