hi! I have a 1996 Bally S5500 that won't accept money. If you put a coin (quarter) in, the quarter just gets stuck (just sits in the piece you put quarter in). Doesn't get any credits on machine. We just put a new battery in due to 81 code and did the clear code on it which seemed to work as the code went away.
Any idea? With door closed, green light is on on the coin comparator. Reels spin on start up and all other systems seem to be okay.

Sounds like something is physically blocking the coins path. Open the door and remove the coin comparitor then examine all coin pathways for the obstruction or misalignment.

Also be sure that there is a quarter in the comparitors slide and not some other coin/token.

There doesn't appear to have anything blocking it...however there is not a coin in the competitor. So, I put one in there and now the quarter just drops straight through to the coin tray on the outside of machine. ??

Make sure you quarter is sitting flat in the comparitor. You might want to try turning down the sensitivity adjustment on the front of the comparitor. Turn it counterclockwise all the way to the negative (-) side. When you close the door does your machine cycle after about 10-15 seconds?

Are you shutting the door and waiting for the insert coin light to illuminate before inserting a coin?
