Title: Bally Alpha 1 double whammy
Post by: Badbaud on January 09, 2018, 03:37:26 PM
I finally got a working power supply for the game, Suzo Happ had rebuilds in stock.
Now the machine powers up but the hard drive LED remains red and the buzzer on the board emits a continuous Beeeeep.
The screen displays VGA no input.
I am not that familiar with the Alpha 1 but can I assume the hard drive is bad?
If so where can I get another chassis with a good hard drive.
Does it have to be populated with the game theme or will the CF cards load the game onto the hard drive?
Blazing 7's is the theme.
Any other fix that I am missing which could get the game back up?
I ran the clear card and no result.

If it has a hard drive you have an Alpha 2.  You use an install card in the top slot and game card in the bottom slot to install a game.  May need an OS card too.  Just using only an install card in the top slot should display what is on the hard drive, as well and bios, and jurisdiction chips.

Then maybe it doesn't have a hard drive. Under the power supply shelf is a large 5" square black heat sink and I assumed the hard drive was under that.
Why won't the game come up and why do I have a"no input" on the display? And a continuous beeeep sound from the main board?

Do you have a 1-gig box or 512?.  A continuous beep means death-box-main board failure.  All that box has is a processor with a heat sink mounted on it.  Post a pic of your mpu-You are more than likely going to need a new/used one.  If you want new-call the ghost busters--ME-- :arrowthruhead: .

Also,  A word of advice -Take the mpu out and look at all the Gold pins in the two slots on the back and make sure none are bent or missing.  If bent get your tools out and carefully straighten them.

Looks like a 512 box.  I have a new one-Just put your bios and Jur. chips in and batteries and cook with crisco.  100 bucks plus shipping if you want a new one.   PM me if so.  As a note--Everything I offer here belongs to ME,  I don't sell, fence, etc. other peoples stuff.

I had to reply on this one because with my buzzing cpu I would switch the power button on the front of the cpu to the left and then to the right and it made my cpu last another 2 years before it crapped out.  This is only after the power is turned on and you hear a buzzing sound.  Worked on three cpu's I thought were fried or not working.

thanks,
arnold
