Title: GK 6.x - SHA Failure Check
Post by: Skoon on December 31, 2023, 07:20:44 PM
Hi All...  I'm new to this site and am hoping to get some help.  The company that I had purchased this through is no longer in business, so I am kind of on my own to get this up and working again.

I think I have a Game King 6.0.  After moving the machine, I have started getting the "SHA Failure Check and Replace Flash" error message.  I have seen some other similar posts that look locked and discuss contacting an RB (I don't have DM rights apparently).

Before they closed up shop, I was given a few EEPROMs that are supposedly to help program it, but I've never had the need to fool around with it as it just "worked".

I would love to get this machine up and working again, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Happy New Year and ....

 :NLG_WELCOME:

DSA/SHA Failure error indicates a problem with the flash card (daughterboard mounted on top of the MPU).  You can try pulling and reseating the flash card and see if that resolves it.  Probably not, but it's worth a shot.  Sometimes the game program can be reflashed to the board and that may fix it, but probably 90% of the time when it fails one of the memory chips has failed and the board needs to be replaced.

Another option is getting a developer's bootchip for the flash card.  With that you can turn off the DSA/SHA checks and if the area of memory that is defective is in an unused (by the game software) location it will play just fine then.  But it could have unexpected and unforeseen consequences if it's somewhere in the game code, but not noticeable, at least at first.  For example the game could play just fine, but then lock up when you hit the cash out button.  You really won't know where the bad memory locations are at and if the game code uses that location or not.

Not sure if RB has flash memory cards or not, if not check with Sixcardmark, he may be able to get you a replacement. They'll be able to check yours and let you know if the card is bad or just the programming on it too.   You need to have 5 forum posts to send a PM.  Spambots made that a necessity.  They'll likely see this post and respond though.  Make sure you turn off the power before removing any components from you machine and ground yourself prior to handling the MPU and the flash memory card.  Try to handle the flash card by the edges of the card, they're easily damaged by static electricity.

If you do end up with a new flash card get the developers bootchip too.  It has built in keychip functions and turning off the DSA/SHA checks results in a machine that boots up in seconds vs minutes.

Thanks for quick response and Happy New Years to you all as well....  I'll try reseating, maybe something got jostled, but if I need to replace something, that is fine too :)

Hopefully it's something simple like that.  Keep us posted.

Unfortunately reseating the board didn't work (as you suspected), nor did replacing the battery (for good measure since my S2000 battery started throwing a low battery error too)

Hoping one of the folks you mentioned can chime in here with some next steps / options.

Next step is to try a DEV39 boot chip to bypass SHA check, if that doesn't work try sending flashboard to someone to try to reflash it.  If that doesn't work buy a new flashboard with game flashed on it.   I can help on all above.  PM if interested.

He needs a couple more post to send a PM.

Skoon,  make a couple more posts in this thread and you should be able to send sixcardmark a PM when you hit 5.
