Title: What's the difference between set and clear chip?
Post by: bossx2 on December 17, 2015, 08:20:36 AM
Hello there.  Is there a difference between a SET denomination chip and a CLEAR CHIP.   I'm looking to convert nickels to quarters, but wasn't sure.  Did you find what you were looking for and can you enlighten me if there is in fact a difference.

I'm not very familiar with Sigma but in general terms,

I think the CLEAR chip is to erase all the casino bookkeeping statistical data and reset all the various default machine settings. Probably normally done in situations like if the machine is relocated to another casino or if a service tech wants to start fresh, like moving the main logic board to another machine.

The SET denomination chip will program the machine for whatever coin size you want to use, like nickels or quarters. But it doesn't usually clear out the other data stored in the machine memory. It may also let you set other settings in the machine. Do you have the manual for your machine?

You may need to tell us the Sigma model you are referring to, there can be differences from one model to another. Look for an idplate on the machine, or post a few photos of it.
