Title: IGT 3902 Board sound issues
Post by: dunginhawk on April 27, 2024, 02:15:13 PM
Good afternoon..
I have a new to me 3902 board IGT multi game machine... It works well, Im happy overall, but the volume is CRAZY loud.
In the volume settings i have all of them set to the lowest possible (while still being audible) and when the bonus goes off in a slot its so lout it rattles the walls.
Even a normal video poker shuffle/BING sound is too loud.

There is no way to make it quieter in the settings.  Is there a hi-pot or anything on a board somewhere to edit this?
I dont know what else to do.

Thanks team

There is a digital potentiometer that controls the volume on the board. They do fail.  Do you have a lot of background noise and static sounds?

Generally speaking things sound ok.. Like dealing the cards, holding, wins etc... Just a bit of crackling when you win a slot or something, because its SOOOOO loud.

Is there any way to just disconnect the current speakers and plug in others? not sure what the ports etc look like... the audio is just too crazy.. cant even play at night. the lowest setting rattles the house haha

If you have the sound board with the 2 046 eproms it will be louder than the rest of the games. Try pulling the sound board and see what that does. You will lose some of the custom sounds but it should level out the volume with the rest of the games.

MML or MML2 (with sound simm slot) sound board?  The MML2 boards have some 1uf ceramic caps that can reek havoc on the volume, cause loud crackling sounds, hiss etc when they fail.  If it's a MML2 try a new board and see if that fixes the problem.
