Pre-1977 EM (Electro mechanical) & Early SS (Solid state) Pinball machines.
-
Me too....except different era. I am a fan of Dot Matrix display machines. (1991+)
-
I take what I can get locally and cheap!
Gottlieb Big Casino that belonged to the company owner's nephew. Never setup to take coins and the playfield is slightly different than any other Big Casinos I have seen online. Also got a Bally Sun Valley bingo game. A friend picked it up at the Sheriff's evidence auction. It was seized in a raid at a local bar.
I prefer non working machines. The challenge of the repair is what I really enjoy.

we have a few pins here too around 120 of them oldest non electric one to stern monopoloy
-
Wish I had room for a Pin.
-
I have a 1984 ish Bally Kings of Steel and I love it. Kind of like a slot machine though, you get to work on it once in a while.
-
Something about slots and pins go together I guess. 38 restored pinballs here, along with 6 jukes to keep the 26 slots in good company.
Im I obsessed? Guess so LOL

I play Pinball while playing Pinball! :arrowthruhead:

Big fan of the early Bally S/S games. Just recently sold a Six Million Dollar Man and a Black Pyramid which funded my latest foray into WMS DMD slots! So when I am not looking around here you can find me at Pinside with a few other projects. Right now I am trying to prepare 3 machines for the Texas Pinball Festival in March in Dallas. A Bally Space Invaders, Eight Ball Deluxe and this little project...

NO WAY.. Are you the 'Clearly Insane' guy? I have followed that post for a long time!

Yeah that's me. Giving my back a nice break after this past weekend and then it's back to it.

Well, great work.. That's no small task by any means.. :cool_thumb_up:
I have been working (with another PinSide member) on a MOD for TFTC that'll come out soon., a TV MOD like on TZ, but will eventually be interactive with modes during game play.. Gotta love Pinball!!
:NLG_WELCOME:
(I'd love an Eight Ball Deluxe.., IF I could find one with a nice PF..)
-
Oh nice! I've yet to play that game.
Yeah, my EBD is a $300 special that was the last machine off the truck at last years TPF swapmeet. She's a junker with decent bones. We'll see!

One of these days I will re-write (again) the story behind my custom Space Invaders rebuild. Short version is the play-field was beyond hope when I bought it, so I gave it a generic space theme (I always thought the original was too "busy"). I made my own plastics, it has the 7 digit mod with new LED score displays, new control boards, and a few other extras.
The generic space theme playfield

Added one of those plasma things, to give it a little more dazzle (got rid of the green one and have the one in the video below now)

Short video of the Beta Brite I connected to it via a PIC that will display the high score, extra ball, and game over. I've changed the display a bit since I first recorded this, but you can get the idea.

Nice! Curious what you used on the playfield? I look forward to playing that machine and a few other retros at a pin expo this April. Classics.
I built my way up to 4 pins.., sadly I just sold the last one tonight... :banghead:
[blink]BUT[/blink], I will post a pic or vid of me and fam gently ripping the box off a brand new Stern!! :cool_thumb_up: (Hopefully sooner then later. Prices fluctuate like the weather up here. Damn.)

Well, I have three pins......Spanish Eyes(em,1972), Space Invaders(1980) and Flight 2000(1980). I've fully restored all of them including a total re paint of Flight 2000. I had to make my own stencils from the worn and faded graphics. It also has a new repo back glass. I soldered in new lamp sockets in all of the playfields. Touched up the playfields where needed and installed all new pop bumper assys. and switches. Quite a job, but its all about the hobby as slots are too. I've had many pins but these are the three I keeping. John

Harvs.........I once owned an Eight Ball Deluxe, 1981. Its the best year. It was a Fabulous Fantisies fully restored one. VERY expensive. A lot of fun though, however I learned a lesson. It had one of his overlays on the playfield and over time it started bubbling up near the pops. DON'T buy a pin with an overlay. Just my opinion.... John

Curious what you used on the playfield?
I sanded it down to bare wood. Painted it blue, then gave it a dozen or so coats of polyurethane which gave it the darker gloss look seen above. with all of the lights, bumpers, etc. the finished product really does not look too "plain" without any other play-field graphics.
After the painting, but before the polyurethane, while I was installing the new lamp plastics including some home made "invader" decals (second pic below).

I know it's no longer "original", but I enjoy playing it.
Oh, I also got one of those polygon multi-color slot toppers, made a custom pinball insert, and this now sits on top of it. where the clock was in the video.

Wow that does look glossy. - I was 'almost' about to take on the clear-coat project for my Tales from the Crypt but decided against it, it seems to take a long long time to do and must be does perfect. Plus, Data East seems to have made a pretty tough play field so some P21S wax every month or so really kept it looking good.

THE F'N HOFF!
Scored this filthy beast for quite a steal recently and just finished a complete shop. Another bang for your buck pin in my opinion. Pure cheese, love it!

And if you can guess the last pinball (1 of 3 in the world) in my pics I will personally fly to your home and give you a high 5!! :cool_thumb_up: Played a few mean games on it yesterday! Sweet!

Hey Harvs,
Just turn that plane around and make it to the "Get Together" in Pottstown, PA this August and you can give me the "High 5" then. (and I'll give you a hot dog or hamburger in return) :dancing_2: :dancing_2: :rotfl:

That's an idea.. I wonder if I can bring a slot machine and check it in as my 'carry on' during the flight? Ha

rarest thing in pinball we ever owned were 2 corvettes that had shooter rods on them instead of shifter to shoot ball , we were so busy back then bring in pins they never got noticed , till they were sold seems a lot of proto types went overseas
-
Hey Harvs,
I don't know about a slot "carry-on" but if you want to send it ahead I'll be happy to give you my address !! :24:

I did a rebuild on one of these to operate back in the day. I had a new playfield and had it emroned. It was a great experience, getting everything loose and sliding the wiring from one playfeild to the other. Looked better than new.
