Bally Alpha2 V22/22 printer error
« on: November 29, 2024, 06:13:41 PM »
Hello all.  Question, Anyone know what is going on here? The printer was working great but now it has this error after a clear. Trying to setup a new hard drive with the Illinois game chest. The setup will not let me choose the printer. The options are only GDS printer. The printer is a Future Logic model PSA-66-ST2R with firmware GUR0012909. TKT-001209. Thanks

That is strange. Maybe the clear wasn't successful ?  Future Logic is one of the choices you should have,

I know right!  I think it might be due to the BIOS 231326C. I’m not sure. It just populates the GDS printer in the field and nothing more to pick from. I hope someone has some ideas.  Thanks

Last year I swapped the hard drive on my machine for one with the Illinois game chest with no issues. It allowed me to select my Future Logic printer, and I have the same BIOS you do. What clear card did you use?

What OS is running on the hard drive you trying to install that is giving you the printer problems? If this is another version of the IL game chest, the OS may be only programmed for that printer.

370B is the OS according to the seller. Is BDS printer just saying it’s not finding a printer or having a com error. Thanks

I booted my machine up and took this screen shot. My OS is 373F.

My machine is a Wave but the MPU is the same. The monitors differ.

Tried to clear and re-start. Still happens before I even hit the test button.

Check and reseat the printer cables. If your printer is using the USB interface, replace the cable. Try another printer if you have one or replace the printer.

Update:  Solve the printer selection issue in the setup, and maybe it will communicate.

Is there a single orange wire running between the printer harness and the power supply?

My printer has the black coiled harness that comes with the printer, the end of which has a 3-pin connector, a 14-pin connector and a USB connector. The 14-pin connector is the only one connected. It plugs into a short 6-inch harness which has a 14-pin connector at one end and a 20-pin connector at the other which plugs into the machine.

After looking at the harness, it looks like it has one orange wire going to the power supply.

Yep...if you swap out the power supply unit, that printer com error will go away.
The orange wire coming out of the printer harness, monitors a certain voltage from the power supply, if it doesn't pass, the printer won't work.

I found this out the hard way.
Bought a couple of power supplies cheap...BOTH had this problem.
Everything else would work in the machine... except the printer.

The thing is that the printer works with another hard drive with one game on it. It’s when I switch to the other hard drive it failed to find it.  Thanks

oh okay...the printer is known good then.
Possible faulty hard drive maybe?...I'd switch to a SSD (Solid State Drive) anyways...no moving parts.
Dailey knows more about your machine than I do.
I just have a WMS BB2...lol
Sometimes the problems are almost the same even with other machines.

What Illinois game chest software did you buy, exactly? I see a lot of this software for the WMS, SG Twinstar, etc. Are you sure yours is compatible with Bally V22/22 ?

Software should be good. I suspect the problem may have to do with a failure to clear. There is no confirmation that NVRAM cleared. It's not even listed. When you went through the clear procedure, did it list NVRAM and give you the option to clear it?

The printer COMM error is a result of the incorrect printer selected. If we can solve the problem of a successful RAM clear, you should be able to select the correct printer and the COMM error will go away.
