Title: reel #1 snap switch - picture?
Post by: wolftalk on February 12, 2023, 02:08:49 PM
I'm working on an 873 that has the handle release relay and cabinet socket wired for a reel 1 snap switch, but the reel mech never had one.

I don't recall ever seeing what the snap switch and mount look like.  I think it's a microswitch that is detecting that the reel #1 wiper arm is being held back while the reel spins, and the switch changes state when the wiper arm is released to index the reel.

usually the switch has grey/blue (92), blue/red (21-1) and brown/red (61-1) wires on it, and it's on multiple coin games that were made from the mid-1970's onward.

the idea was if someone pulled the handle while dropping the last coin, it prevented the odds or lines units from possibly resetting due to the race between the coin switch and handle release relays changing state.

a bonus side effect was the game will accept coins until the first reel indexed.  It also handled the possibility of coin(s) stuck in the chute not being registered, but if the reel kick caused enough vibration to free them up they would step up the odds or enable additional paylines.

I can add a jumper wire on the reel mech plug to make the game work ... or find a snap switch/mounting bracket if anyone has one or I can see what it looks like.  The parts manuals I have don't show it, tho the 5000 manual from 1977 mentions it, it's not in the exploded parts diagrams.

can anyone take/post pictures?

First pic is from a 955, next two from a 1081.  last is better pic of the mount on 955. Hope this helps.
