Title: Swapping between Family 14 and 20
Post by: Yoeddy1 on March 28, 2023, 01:43:18 PM
So I’m going to have 2 660 MPUs.  One for Family 14 and one with Family 20.  The Family 14 660 has show boots.  The Family 20 660 will have the standard boots until show boots become available.

Since I’m using license dongles for Family 20, how does this work?  Can I only have one game in at a time?  I’ll be starting with Lobstermania 3.  Do I just stick my Ekey7, the license dongle, and the loader dongle in 3 USB ports and power it up?  Will it load up just like a Family 14 game, and then I configure accordingly in the menus?

Also, if I want to switch CPUs back forth?  Or would I have to completely wipe the drives and start all over each time I do this?

Thanks,
Jason

I'll answer the last question since I don't know about the others.  Get another pair of 25256E EEPROMs for your cabinet controller (blackfin) board.  Then you can swap CPU's with the EEPROMs and everything stays intact (games, credits, stats, etc).

Thanks, Cliff.  Yeah, I remember now that you answered that one on another thread of mine.  I think I still have a few of those chips that I used for my Game King 044.  Those EEPROMs install into sockets right?  Not soldered to the board, and there are 2 of them yeah?

You will need a family 20 diagnostic to get initial set up done. LD goes and stays in the backplane.

The G23 AVP uses 25256E EEPROMs.  044 uses 24C256, they are not the same or interchangeable.  The DIP version is obsolete and not available at the big electronic part houses in the US.  Ebay and a Chinese vendor will be your best bet at getting some.

Yes they are plug in sockets.

Rodney, I sent you a PM on this very topic.

Thanks,
Jason

Cool  :cool_thumb_up:.  Label them however you want (1/2 Top/bottom upper/lower, etc), but they have to be installed in the same location after installation and initilaization.
