Title: Question on an S-2000 1270 board burnt component
Post by: erbs on April 17, 2023, 04:52:44 PM
Machine has been working for 5+ years. Machine was playing fine and went out. Showed netplix link is down error. Curious to what circuit the burnt component controls. And what may have caused this.

It is one of 2 MOSFETs in the 3.3V switching power supply. They do just fail but sometimes there is a string of parts that go with it. There are several that would need to be checked and replaced. Also traces could have been damaged. It cooked off pretty good.

It   :burningresistor:  pretty good!  Lookes can you fix things like that if the circuit traces aren't damaged as well?

Could a power supply going bad possibly have caused this?

It converts 13V from the power supply to 3.3V.  Pretty sure the power supply has some protection for overvoltage. I guess it's possible, but I have repaired several of these successfully. No real 'cause' found for it.
