Title: Working Then Not
Post by: anchorbru@outlook.com on May 09, 2023, 10:03:31 AM
My IGT 5 coin wild cherry has been a long term dependable machine. It is in my office at the house and get used often while sitting in meetings.  This morning it was working as advertised. An hour later when I walked into the office I hit the max bet and noticed the only thing that was working was the light on upper panel. None of the winner paid/credits etc were on. No lights anywhere else. When I reboot, the bill validator runs through its boot up sequence. I can’t access any setup and no codes. All fuses are intact and mother board looks good (meaning no blown battery).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check the voltage on the battery on the MPU.  The motherboard(backplane) has no battery.  Also check the harness from the power supply to the motherboard at the motherboard connector for burnt marks.

Thanks for the correction. The MPU battery looks good and read 3.6vdc. Looking at power supply now.

The power supply and associated pins all look good.

Do the reels spin and get stiff when you turn machine on?

Following. Same problem.

Pretty sure the power supply smoke checked itself.  Took it apart and two of the resistors (maybe?) are loose from the board, solder pulled away and lots of browning on the board, inside the case signifying smoke.

Now I am in search of a new power supply.

First thing, lets make sure what type machine you have?  picture would be nice?

second thing, there are no resistors in the power supply module for a s plus machine, only wiring, transformer, wire blocks, ac filter, and fuse holders, and an aux. power plug. and output connectors!

need pictures of what you are referring too.

None of that stuff in your photos are in an S+ slot.

One thing for certain, I've never seen a Phihong power supply.

Can you show us a full picture of the front of this machine?

Your photos are quite small...only around 33KB to 50KB in size...you know, you can post pictures as large as 1000KB.

Pics are of S+ WBA bill validator power supply.  I have one if you need one.

He should be able to still play machine with coins if he unplugs that BV PSU.

I am quite dumb. My apologies. That is the power supply that got burnt. That is definitely not the problem with the machine not working. I will take some better pictures of the machine this mornin. I will make them bigger too.

Better pic of smoke checked bill power supply….  I know this is not “the” problem but if I want the bill validator to work again I will need another.

You are doing much better with your photo taking!  :applause:
Open the door and take a some of the guts of your machine.
You fried something...we need to find out.
Are there any other power supplies inside the machine?
Is there a big long box on the floor on the right wall?
There would be 3 fuses on the front of it.

Need to get the machine's main power supply working before the bill validator.
Like SCM said, you can disconnect the bill acceptor for now.
You have a coin acceptor?
Let's see the inside door panel.

Here are a few more. The machine worked like a champ and had worked like a champ for two years now. Bill acceptor and coin. Cashed out just fine. The just stopped.

that's very typical of the board inside that power supply, after years of use they all look like that!, the fact that you stated in your first post that the bill unit did cycle on power up indicates that the power supply in question is in fact working!, that power supply is only used for the wba unit, with the power on and  hooked up to the wba there should be two Red LEDS on directly above the 8 switch bank on the right hand side, if these are on then the power supply is putting out the 13 vdc it should be, you are correct, this is not the reason your machine is not working.

when you apply power to the machine, the fluorescent lamps should come on, all three of them, if not check starter and bulb in one that does work.
should see some type of numbers in the displays, reels should be held in place, not free wheeling when moved by hand.

hope this helps

from the picture, it looks as if your power connector from the power supply module to the motherboard had a burn mark on it, that is where you should start, its probably  the problem  with the  machine not working, wiggle it , move it up and down and see if you get any response from the machine.

So you guys Rock!!!  Nailed it.  I cleaned the connector and reseated it, vacuumed the inside of the power supply (main for the machine) spider webs and bugs seem to like the thing.  Re-soldered the loose resistor on the board in the power supply for the bill validator and everything works as advertised again!!  My wife and I are amazed that in a blurry photo you guys were able to point out what we shoulda seen and sent us the right direction for the fix. If y’all are ever in the Oklahoma area I have some beer for you guys!!  Thanks again for all the support this board provides.
