Title: Coil & Plunger Identification Help
Post by: sudsy7 on February 15, 2015, 06:19:01 AM
It looks like this coil/plunger has something to do with locking the door?   Is that correct?  I don't see it actuate when I do the coil test.

Looks like the door interlock. I believe it's controlled by the casino and wired to a control independent of the CPU control. Its purpose is to prevent the door opening even with a key, some sort of casino security measure.

I have removed all of them on my Bally machines along with the door latch guard plate (reduces the weight of the home machine).

Also, I have cut the wiring to the coin diverter solenoid (the one that routes overflow coins to the chute in the base of the machine) and bent the tab to keep the diverter blade closed all the time so all coins fall into the hopper. Taking it out of the picture reduces electrical usage and does away with the "hum" that the coil makes.
