Information on G23 Edge lit Dynamic Buttons

Looking for 8 dynamic buttons, edge lit. The guy I bought this machine from pretty much screwed me, it came to me with no power supples, everything disconnected and I had to figure out how to piece it back together, and when I finally got it together and booted I came to find out most of the buttons don't work (at least light up). I can get them from Nomad for $50 per but hoping someone has used ones for a bit less if possible.

What kind of sucks is these new machines have expensive-as-hell buttons.
Those buttons are going up in price as we speak.
I noticed one website was selling them for about $55 bucks apiece and when I just Googled the same website, they're now $72 each!!?? Nutz!
Buying used buttons is like buying used light bulbs?
Don't expect them to last long. 
Hopefully, someone will give you a break. 

Have you ever taken a button like yours apart? I haven't.
Can just the LCD display component inside of it be replaced, or is its ribbon cable soldered to the circuit board in there? 
If it's not soldered, I can direct you to a website that sells real small display panels.

Before you start dumping money in buttons do you have an ekey?  It sounds like due to the condition you are surely going to need one and may be floored when you see the price of that.

Stayouttadabunker - No, I'm not sure how to take them apart so I haven't ventured that far. I did move a couple around to see if it was the ribbon cable but no matter where I put them they don't work at all.

Slotman - Yes I bought an ekey from a guy in Michigan, it works great. He accidentally sent me a 9 instead of a 7, I returned the 9 to get the 7. It was expensive yes but necessary. I've already dumped about $700 into this machine just to get it to the point I'm at now. Most likely not going to deal with this guy again, this is the second time he burned me, sold me a Spielo without clear cards and dongles which I had no clue were impossible to find.

Nomad actually has them in stock for $50? In today’s market that’s a good price. Buying used is a crapshoot at best. They often don’t have the same screen and or edge lit brightness across the set. They can easily end up looking mismatched once installed.

It is a small screen connected to a PCB. They can be unbound but then finding a replacement screen isn’t the easiest thing either.

ugh...I just watched it....they don't show if you can replace the OLED display screen or not.

I watched it yes, he makes it look so easy but I’m sure he’s done it a million times. Not as easy as it looks, the tab to remove the lens is a PITA and I gave up because I didn’t want to destroy the plastic housing. I got a great deal on them from Get-t though, the refurbished ones. They have them for $42

Well, usmicro sells single screens for about $28 bucks each but the only way to know for sure is take a button apart and see if the screen has a short ribbon cable with a non-soldered end.
If the ribbon cable is soldered, or the display panel is "embedded" to the circuit board, then it's a much more complicated job.
I just hope your refurbished $42 dollar buttons last a while.

Some guy was selling used, dead ones last week for like $5 apiece here...would of been nice if we could replace /refurbish the screens easily enough.

That was me.  Get-t was offering $5.00 each for dead ones so I figured i would offer the NLG communtity.  I had offers within 5 minutes and sold within twenty minutes.  There must be someone refurbishing them.

GET-T is refurbishing old buttons with a brand new OLED screen, they have been able to source 3rd party ones that work.  I don't know if they are have any in stock right now, but they sell DIY screen upgrade kits as well as buttons they have already refurbished.

I see that now, I might just have to make an order. Does anyone know if I can just interchange edge lit and non edge lit? I do know my blackfin has the proper updated firmware, just not sure if they will work or not and would like to upgrade to edge lit.

Just know that the ones that Get-t will work. The only problem is they are not OEM. When you get them installed you will see that the screen is attached by a ribbon cable that is soldered onto the board. that ribbon cable is not blacked out. the OEM is green and thick. these are not. The light will shine through from the LCD to the button deck. And also the buttons DO NOT DIM like the OEM when you play your game. if you are not OCD then these will work fine. I will post some pics. I ended up just buying OEM after I upgraded a few and did not like them.

Chris, the replacement (non OEM) does not have the black frame around it in your photo. Did you install it without the frame?

no it is installed with the frame. the frame comes off to allow you to take off the plastic protector sheet that is on the screen then you put it back on. Its the way they are shipped for protection. It is the way they are made. Get-t is trying to work with the suppliers to update this problem my contact told me.

Here is another pic of 4 of them installed with the frames. The light comes through the very thin connector cable. One of the screens was broken in transit but just showing light refelcting through on the button deck. The screens are a different brightness also. Not just the words are lighted up, then entire screen is bright. Its just not OEM enought for me. I tried to tape over the connector cable and it worked for about 15 mins then the tape started coming off an light came through again. Get-t's partners is working for a solution from what I am told. I was also told to try liquid electrical tape just to cover the thin cable but never got around to it. I just ended up getting new OEM buttons
