What should the VBAT value be in the diagnostic screen?
« on: February 06, 2023, 11:23:52 PM »
What should the VBAT value be in the diagnostic screen assuming the battery still has a healthy charge?  I'm currently showing 2.992.  I'm not getting any out of range errors, but I'm wondering if a low battery is causing some of the storage errors I keep getting.

Very close to 3 volts, so likely okay.

A new CR2032 will show around 3.1V / 3.2V. Lithium batteries start to lose their ability to supply full current once they fall under 3.0V.

I wonder if this is the most common cause of these safe storage corruption errors that seem to be so common with AVP machines.  The voltage being low, but not low enough to trigger a system error.  The casinos probably don't see the issue often because they leave their machines powered all the time.  I will have to make a mental note if the problem occurs less often after a battery change.

Re:Sirius

Indeed, it is when the game is being moved in a casino, that the game starts drawing from those batteries.

I had to consult my notes to double check. The PCI FPGA card with 2 x 3V batteries has the safestorage on board.

The VBAT stores the BIOS settings but... if the battery is quite dead, the computer could crash and then corrupt the safestorage anyway. I do not usually see a board monitor tilt for VBAT.

if VBAT is quite dead, the computer will not start at all and upon replacement, I typically see NO GAME ENABLED.

VBAT - Stores date and time ( wrong date/time [too early means the license looks like it is not yet valid ] equals license tilt )

VBAT - the hard drive uses a unique storage format, if the BIOS settings are lost, one may have to "LOAD OPTIMAL DEFAULTS" in the bios, if the computer keeps restarting to the splash screen.

I used to try and switch the BIOS battery very quickly. Now I pull the computer, turn it around and connect the power connections to it while I change the battery.
