Spare NXT3.2 CPU went dark

Hey guys,

Was playing around with my spare NXT3.2 today.  I loaded up Wonka and had it running for a couple of hours.  I then turned it off and fired it up later tonight.  It was on for maybe 30 minutes, and I then noticed that both monitors were dark.  Hmm.

The video card I tested in another machine…it’s fine. 

Both monitors are dark, the main large spin button had a small white led in the corner, but other than that nothing on the other buttons. 

Loaded up my other 3.2 MPU, and it’s working great.

Adastra board go TU?  What do you guys think?

Swap adastra board from healthy mpu to verify.  It's the only way.  If you are afraid of putting the good adastra board on the bad mpu, do it the other way around, put the adastra board from the bad mpu into the good mpu and see if it boots.

Is that little rectangular green/red message box on the lcd screen that says "No Signal" ?

The RAM sticks are on the Adastra too right, Rick?  If the RAM was kaput, would it shut the system down?

If a BIOS or JUR chip went sour, could this take it down not allowing post?

Bad ram would make your system do some beeps.  A bad bios, would definitely cause the system not to POST.  SJUR would not prevent the system from doing POST, you would get an spi error during the boot procedure.

Ok, so it looks like the fans are operating, and the 4 green LEDs on the left are all lit green.  If I remember, when I looked at the manual, this indicates good power, 3.3v, 12v, and 24v?  I also installed a known working video card.  I did take the Adastra out and reseated the RAM after reinstalling the Adastra. 

No video is posting at all, nothing nada. 

Ideas?

I'd pull out the Bios chip.
Sometimes the two corner PLCC chip legs get bent apart when removed, esp. if the chip comes out slightly crooked.
It makes the chip legs on the corner bend a little, and doesn't want to touch the socket contact strips when later installed down into the socket.
It's pretty easy to push the chip legs back straight with a tweezers or tip of a knife.

I pulled the BIOS and JUR chips out.  Legs looked fine.  Maybe the BIOS gave up.

I’ll swap it with my other one and see what happens.
