Title: TRUCK COMPANIES - R+L - FRAUD!!!
Post by: GOS on July 07, 2016, 01:05:08 PM
I have been shipping machines for 30 years by truck and airline - I KNOW what my shipments weigh - I sure know when I ship an IGT S+ on a wood pallet and wrap in cardboard and band it - the weight is approx 250/260 pounds - but I book it at 275.  So how does a 275 pound shipment become 485 pounds - CERTIFIED WEIGHT???  I am not going to pay this OVERAGE!!! This is FRAUD.  Anyone else have issues with R+L?  or other truck companies - bad enough they won't insure used equipment - and when the destroy it - to bad.  THOUGHTS ANYONE?

Contact their customer service & dispute their claim. I am retired from a major tucking company. Most forklifts were equipped with scales as well as the floor scales on the dock. Sounds like someone carelessly weighed your shipment without making sure the scale was at zero first. I agree with you on what an IGT upright weighs. Variables such as top box style, hopper come into play but not that much. Slant tops are another story. I have had machines delivered to me by R&L once without issue. Good luck.

their response is I should have my shipments certified - my response was well - if I did - then mine is different that yours - so who wins?

THANK YOU RB!!!!   That worked - I called R+L customer service who advised me to send specs for the machine - the invoice - and the bol for the shipment - within 4 hours I got a confirmation that they would honor the BOL weight!!!   My broker CHROBINSON made no effort to resolve threatening me to send to collections unless I paid!!!   So goodbye CHROBINSON - I will deal with trucking companies directly from now on.

Glad to hear that. I don't know if you have your freight picked up or you drop it off at a local dock. Dropping it off can clear the confusion & the weight can be verified at that time upon request. You can also check different rates. Sometimes depending on the company, expedited or guaranteed service can be cheaper than standard depending on the destination service area or current sales promotions. It's always a good idea to check. Usually shipping from dock to dock (you drop off, customer picks up) is the most economical.

there are so many issues with the trucking companies - delivery to a residence (which they seem to have different definitions) requires extra charge for residential and a lift gate (which the trucks already have).  Unfortuneatly they pickup at my warehouse and deliver to my customer (sometimes they decide to pickup at warehouse to same the $100 the truck companies want for residential. And then INSURANCE - they won't insure USED equipment so it is a crap shoot. I don't know what a certified scale costs - but even then -  if I did and they reweigh - with 2 different weights - somebody has to concede  - who wins?

R&L is one of the better companies. Shipped many through them with no damage or hassles.

they dropped a palleted poker destroying the poker - they shipped it back to me for free - I had to pay the out going shipping and salvaged very little.  NO INSURANCE!!!  for used equipment.

R&L just received a spot on my "Not to Use" list. We are a small enough group to know who does it, and who does it right. GOS suffered the monetary loss, let's prevent anyone else from doing the same.
