Title: S+ Lights come on, no sound, no spins, no display, nothing!
Post by: WYSlots on April 18, 2014, 09:16:58 PM
Hey Everyone!

We have an IGT S+ Tournament machine.

The Machine was working great then one day randomly decided to crap out.

The Unit powers on just the florescent lights and nothing else. There is nothing on the screen, the reels do not spin, no sound, no response from the reset button or key.

The only thing that comes on is the florescent lights.

Where do I even start?

Thanks for your help and input :)

A (6) pin (6) inch long power cord that goes from the power supply to the Mother board.

The one in this picture has been modified, where this one is soldered to the mother board yours will have a white plug. Move the plug around a little bit and it may start working again, ( For a while )

Just took a look at that cable and connectors. Tried disconnecting and reconnecting. No luck :(

All fuses are good, reseated the board several times and checked all connectors. Still nothing.

Its so weird because typically the machine gives you some idea of whats wrong, but this one just completely crapped out all together.

I have seen this when the main computer board is not plugged in all the way.

It gets it's power from the 6 pin white connector on the backplane board (the board the computer board plugs into).

The board pins are under rated for the current they must handle and because of this some pins on the backplane board become pitted and black.

The white connector's pins also get damaged by the heat and can collapse causing a bad connection, You can pull them out by laying a flat blade
screwdriver sideways in the rectangular window to depress the pin latch as you pull on the wire and the pin and wire should come out.

Clean the pin with a pink eraser and spread it back out so it fits tightly back into the connector.

Make sure you use a razor blade to spread the pin latch back out before reinserting. Make sure the pin latch lines up with the rectangular window.

While you have the connector out clean the 6 pins it plugs into with a pink eraser. If they are very pitted and burned this header may have to be replaced.
