Title: Adjust sound volume on IGT S Plus Haywire
Post by: Ajmmmr on December 26, 2017, 06:14:06 PM
Hello.  I was wondering if anyone had information to how to adjust the volume on our S Plus Haywire.  We are new to the slot machine and couldn’t find anything in the manual about it.  Thanks in advance!

On the MPU, the silver tray with the little black knob, look to see if there is a small blue wheel on the top. It's not always easy to see, but most S+ machines have this type of board. This is the volume wheel. The 10 MHZ board has the blue wheel. The 16 MHZ is done through the machine menu. See if this gets your volume up or down as you need.

Here's a pic of it on a later model S+.

Look in the lower part of your machine, near the coin hopper. The machine's main circuit board (called the mpu) is located down there. It is mounted behind a metal sheet with a black knob attached. On the top of this mpu assembly there may be a blue colored wheel. That is the volume adjust on some machines.

If your mpu does not have the blue volume adjust then it is the newer style of mpu. For that the volume adjust is done by going into the menu system, which is accessed by pressing the white TEST button located inside the machine.

If you aren't sure about any of this then post a photo of your machine, with the main door open, showing the lower area.

You mean that "Casino LOUD volume" setting was too much for home use?   :garfield:

Yeah, it was a tad louder than what we wanted.  We have a bar / game room in our house and the sound would echo around the rooms.  But it is much better now.  Still have a lot to learn about the machine.   We do have one more question.  Right now it takes quarters, up to 3.  We want to convert to tokens. I know about switching out the coin inside the machine but is there anything else we should be aware of?

For best results you will want to find tokens that are the same or very similar, then put one of them into the coin comparitor. Since your machine is already setup for quarters then it is best to use quarter-sized tokens, that way the coin stuff inside your machine won't need to be changed. The coin comparitor measures the metallic characteristics of the coin or token installed in it and compares that to the coin or token that the player inserts. They have to match or the inserted coin/token is rejected. With US quarters this isn't normally a problem because the US mint ensures that all quarters are the same. So if you use tokens they need to be the same metal construction as the example token you install into the coin comparitor.

Also, some coin acceptors have a magnetic slug rejector. US coins aren't affected by a magnetic coin rejector. But I think that some tokens are magnetic and others are non-magnetic, others here will say for sure but I think you want to use non-magnetic type (same as quarters).

Tokens are made by different companies for arcade use and they aren't all the same type of metal or size or thickness. So it is best to find a token that will work and buy enough of the same type for your machine. A US quarter is about .955 inches (24.3mm) diameter and .07 inches (1.75mm) thick. So the quarter-size tokens will be close to this size.

Thank you Rokgpsman.  I ordered the tokens through Amazon, Brybelly 1000-Count Cherry Slot Machine Tokens https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DMPJU0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_vx3qAbXNRYF6V. (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DMPJU0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_vx3qAbXNRYF6V.)  They are very close to the size of a quarter.  It claims it would work with IGT machines but there were some comments about them being magnetic and how to remedy that.

Thanks again for all of your help!!
