Title: WBA 12/13 connected to PC
Post by: ANIslots on December 26, 2018, 12:27:33 PM
Just curious if there is any WBA configuration that will allow it to be connected to a pc, and communicate with it,
trying to make something that i could use on the pc to accept cash,

i can already print tickets on the pc that will validate on my slots

edited subject since this is more about the WBA being connected to a PC, rather that seeing if it was possible

How are you printing a ticket on a PC and
getting it to validate on the slot?

i wrote my own sas host software, takes care of ticket validation for me.

It looks like ill need a ID003 chip for my wBA 13 for sure?
next would be the interface

found this response from op-bell in the old forums

Quote
The standard JCM interface on pins 4 through 7 is opto isolated. Refer to the WBA interface diagram on page 2-2 of the manual. It really needs 12V on the transmit side, 12V to pin 5 and a circuit that can stand 12V on pin 6, because the internal 2.2k resistor does not allow enough current to pass at 5V to turn on the opto isolator properly. Sometimes it works with 5V, but it is unreliable. If you supply 12V to pin 5, a MAX232 will break down (turn on all the time) because it cannot stand 12V, and the 12V coming out of the WBA on pin 4 will damage its input. So you must use 12V, and you must put a circuit between the WBA and the MAX232 to convert the voltage level

Now there is an alternative. If you look at the WBA12/13/22/23 diagram on page 2-2 you will see on the left side, the transmit and receive signals are also connected through TD62382 chips to pins 15 (input) and 19 (output). These pins are marked NC or Reserved in the manual, but they are the same communication signals, at 5V logic level. You can connect these straight to a MAX232 with no other interface, though you must put a 4.7k pull-up resistor to 5V on pin 19, because the MAX232 has a pull-down resistor inside and the TD62382 chip is open collector, so it will not work without a pull-up. This alternative is not available on the WBA10/11/20/21.

has anyone ever tried and successfully got the alternative above to work, that is the route i am going to take to start out.

watch this (https://am-en.jcmglobal.com/wp-content/uploads/UAC-Operators-Guide.pdf)

There is a device that allows connection to a PC for testing and configuration purposes, maybe you can adapt it to your needs

havent seen those for sale in a bit

but i have made progress

through much searching and help from opbells old thread
i was able to communicate using a max 232 convertor, and using an arduino

untill i get my extension harnesses to make up required connections for ease of use i just working with wba13 for now, and writing some code

things that work so far the
1. JCM download program ver. 1.24 will read software version need to test on wba12 for a download the software id003 chip and id024 chip
2. accload works to gather the stats both id003 and id024 chips
3. id003 basic driver 2.10 id003 only
4. id003 basic driver 1.6  id003 only

what i havent got to work is

1. id024 basic driver (024 chip
2. tool suite standard edition

that all for now, unitil i right some code for the pc, then enable it and make the kids pay to play on m computer

Pretty cool!  :cool_thumb_up:
Is your computer software accepting & accounting note values?  :scratch-head_3:

it is accepting and stacking, yes
keeping track of note count of each value inserted not yet, but it will soon the following
 1. number of each bill denom inserted
2. total value of of each bill denom inserted
3. toal number of all bills inserted
4. total value of all bills inserted
5. total tickets inserted
6. total value of all tickets inserted
... inserted tickets are validated by my software for cashier cahout (redeem ticket) or multiples can be inserted and a new ticket will print out for total amount ie

i have ticket printer attached to same pc as well

still to be written lol so this will happen

example 1
insert 100.00 bill
insert 20.00 bill
press print, will print a ticket for $120.00 that can be taken to any of my slots and inserted for credits

example 2
insert 100
insert 20
insert ticket for 50
press print, will print a ticket for 170.00

when tickets are redeemed this way they will also become invalidated and no longer be accepted by this BV or any of my slots

progress update,
i have built my opto isolated interface to talk to the BV,
now i can communicate to the bv from pc using ID024 protocol
much trial and error here though although i did get it to accept and stack its first $1.00 with ID024, but now to figure out how it acknowleges to it will accpet more without restart

anyone happen to have the netplex protocol for BV's and for that matter any netplex device

as promised here is my WBA 13SS ID024 3.75 working connected to my pc, also with the bill sentry attached
still much more cosmetic errors like getting the denominations correct but making great progress

i have a 3 magazine bill dispenser coming that i got for a great price gonna hook that up make the pc into a bill breaker lol

You have no idea how envious I am that you can do that. I'm too old now to ever learn what you know but I sure would love to hang with you for a while and just watch and see your process for what you have done. I'm in awe of you smart folks. Damn! Born too late!
