What’s the best practice for powering off the unit when not in use. Should I open door and hit switch every night, leave it on all the time, use a power strip with an on off switch. It seems after opening and closing the door a few times my hold buttons stop working and then I have to mess around with the ribbon a while to get them back. I’m thinking it’s because of opening and closing so much. What’s the best method on this issue?

It doesn't matter. You're either killing the AC power at the outlet, or at the other end of the power cord inside the machine. I use a power strip with mine.

Power strips here.

Single power strip here for 4 IGT's. Bally Alpha gets handled differently. Cabinet gets powered up before MPU.

Do you think it’s ok to turn it off ever night.

Yes. Mine are always off unless I'm working on them or playing them. No reason to leave them on unless you like giving money to the electric company.
If you do, move to Michigan, our electric company just got a 12% rate increase approved :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: . I hate those pricks!

I turn off the machine's whenever I'm not using them.
Been doing this for over 20 years and NEVER had a problem when turning them back on.
I had an S+ turned off for about 12 years.....when I turned it on, there was still credits on the machine! haha

I don't have my alpha on a power strip neither.
