Title: Jennings - Won't accept coins - J400
Post by: cmk8895 on November 28, 2020, 08:19:33 AM
Hello all.  I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!

I ordered a replacement logic board for my J400 from Casper's.  It has fixed a lot of the issues, but I still cannot get the machine to accept coins.

I turn the machine on, do both resets just in case, and it is sitting there with random numbers on the display and "insert coin" is lit.  I put a quarter in, I hear it fall into the hopper and it does not go into the overflow/reject, so it's going through the mech fine.  The coin counter on the side of the machine increments.  But "coin accepted" never lights and the arm solenoid never releases.

I have thoroughly cleaned all contacts within the machine.  Confirmed power is correct.  It just will NOT accept coins.

Even flipping the coin switches by hand doesn't get a 'coin' accepted.  I also cannot get it to go into tilt by holding the coin switches.

Any thoughts from the experts here?  I know that one of my backplane connectors has some broken contacts, so I built them up so they would contact the logic board and confirmed continuity.  There seems to not be much to coin acceptance other than the logic board, but since it came from Casper's I assume it works correctly.  What else should I be looking at?

Thanks everyone for your continued ideas on this little nightmare project of mine.   :banghead:

Thanks Sunrise!  Believe it or not I had looked at the coin switches before (there are two).  I had tested to ensure they were good.  But after your suggestion I took both off and cleaned them.  I also found one wire was corroded.  Some solder and we're good to go!  It's accepting coins for the first time since I've had it!

The reels gave me some trouble.  Someone had installed a bracket backwards so they wouldn't spin.  Now I'm just trying to get reel 1 to stop.  The arm engages the wheel, but just "skitters" over the notches.  I'm thinking some slightly stronger springs may shove them into the slots on the stop wheel.

I hope I don't jinx myself by saying this nightmare may be coming to an end!  This has really kinda turned me off from electric slots.   Haha
