Title: Machine ID?
Post by: Inetjnky on April 16, 2017, 07:24:44 PM
I'm currently in discussion with the current owner to purchase this machine.  I have not yet seen it in person but the claim it is in perfect working order.  This is the first time looking to purchase a slot and I'm just trying to understand what to ask / be aware of when inquiring with the current owner.  They don't have a manual so I'm curious to where I might find one?  They indicate they have only one key but I'm not sure if this machine came with additional keys?  What else should I look for?  They're asking $400, is this a reasonable asking price?  Thank you.

just my opinion,

$400 seems kind of high for a 3 reel mechanical slot machine. I can't tell which manufacturer that machine is, but if it is a lesser-known one then you could have trouble finding parts for it down the road if anything ever fails. Find out the company that made it (IGT, Bally, Aristrocrat etc) and possibly the model number. There should be an idplate on the machine somewhere, often on the same side as the pull handle.

Keep in mind this is just an opinion, if you love the machine then it is worth almost whatever you want to pay. But you said you are new to slot machines, so it is best to be cautious because it is easy to make a mistake like overpaying or buying an orphan machine that there is very little support or information for it.

It is an Universal, Intermediate cabinet size. Will probably still be working after we all are gone

The key situation is not a big deal, you can either get replacement keys or remove the lock and install a new lock & key. Generally there is a lock for the front door and sometimes a lock for the storage compartment that holds the paper money. Also the machine will likely have a jackpot reset keyswitch, it looks like a lock but when you turn the key it activates a switch to reset things after a big jackpot is won. The jackpot reset switch is also sometimes used for making operating setup choices. If you can find a manual for it you will be able to know a lot more about the machine.

There are also some manuals in the NLG download area, including some for certain models of Universal brand slot machines.

OK looks like it's a Universal.  The inside says "This is inside the machine.   Says "UNIVERSAL" TS3103N53 and then another box that says 52-86".  Will I have trouble finding parts if necessary?  What about lamps?  Is $200 a fair price for this machine?

It is a Universal slot. The marque on the front with two red stripes located between the reel glass and belly glass will say "Universal".  Parts can be found but, not as common as a few other mfg's.  As for price.  At $400, I would say no. It depends on what your personal goal with this machine is. Do you have some electrical background to keep it running if needed? Do you just want it for the novelty for a few years? Will it piss the wife off?  :Tongue_Out:

The $200 mark (all working) is what I would consider tops. But, your location could dictate +/- $50.00.  You need to remember that these are 20 year plus electronics. They could go another 20 or, stop in a couple of days. So, you need to take that into consideration.

Ok Thanks.  Can anyone comment on what model this machine is based on the tag info?

Howdy,
52-86   is most likely page manual numbers, where certain information can be found.
               Good Luck
