Title: New to AVP: Advice Needed
Post by: DDay on July 23, 2015, 12:47:01 PM
I'm buying a new AVP multi game machine (6.0 or higher).

What are the basics I will need to take care and run my home machine (chips/keys, documents)?

I have all the tools I need because I'm coming off of PE+'s and older game kings.

Thanks,

The main things you need to work on AVP are a key 7 and a diagnostic flash.  If you boot with both these installed it will take you to the diagnostic menu where you can clear the safe storage and cabinet memory to do a full ram clear.  Do not wipe the hard drive unless you are planning to install a different game.  If you do you'll need the game installer and license.  You'll also need an operating system install if you wipe the whole hard drive.  An easier way to do a game change is through the package removal screen.  Also if you ever do install a different OS, that OS has to be compatible with your boot chips.  If you just boot the game up and put the key 7 in, it brings you to the menu and allows you to change most of the options in the game.  AVPs are very heat sensitive.  I recommend checking all your fans and cleaning the brain box out.  We remove the heat sink on the processor and video card, clean behind both really well, and apply new heat sink compound.  Also the video cards on these are a nightmare.  We are constantly repairing a good percentage of them that we get from the casinos.

Well there are several things to know about AVP.  The question is what kind of AVP.  AVP comes in many flavors.  For the Brain Boxes there are 4 types.  The first type, oldest is called a 2.0 box.  Most of these run Family 11 Games with CDs and they move into the new Family 14 with USB Dongle.  You will see this series referred to as a Game King Emulator.  Referred this way because the AVP machine is really emulating the Game King Platform.  Then you have there upgrade which is known as a 2.5 box.  These boxes have different processors, ram and video.  Main differences.  These boxes were geared more towards the Family 14 series of games but can also run Family 11.  Then you had the latest and greatest box, the 3.0.  This box was way faster then all the previous models, has no CD support, all USB and way better for running Multiple Games or connecting to IGTs SBX system.  Now they have the newest AVP, the 4.0 box they want to call it, but really it's just a 3.5 box.  This box is in the newest machine's and geared towards AVP's upgrade the ACCENT Platform.

AVP uses a Key 3 - This is an install key.  You use this in conjunction with the program flash to install the games or OS onto the machine.
Key 4 - This is the Diagnostic Key.  You use this key in conjunction with the Diagnostic Flash to Access the Diagnostic Menus
Key 5 - This is the Setup Key.  You use this key to change the options for the game.  This is a (Key chip).
As mentioned by East Coast Slots
Key 7 - This is a key that was created to eliminate the 3.  This 1 key is the Key 3, Key 4 and Key 5 all rolled into 1.

The OS that is loaded on the machine also controls how the HDD is formatted.  This is also directly related to the installed boot chips.  Everything must match.  If you change the boot chips, you will have to install a new OS and reinstall the games.  There is a series depending on how old your AVP is that allows you to change the boots without really affecting the HDD.

Yep, everything he said was spot on too.  I just wasn't going to get that deep into the software.  It's worth noting that the 2.0 box will also run family 14 games if you just upgrade the boot chips and reload.  Since the processor is slower it lags a little with newer games and multiplay games.  A lot of the newer games on this box also require you up the ram to help this lag and even then the multiplay and some of the newer themes are just too laggy on this box.  Also this was the only box that came with cd drive.  They promptly ended that with the 2.5 box.  A 3.0 will run family 11 games also.  You just have to have a newer set of boots and install one of the old emulated OS like AE011042.  Something else that wasn't mentioned is that all these machines are multigame capable as long as whatever extra games you want to install are compatible with your boot chips and OS.  We put 2-4 games on these cabinets usually for a lot of our customers.  The trick with adding more than 1 game if you have a static button panel is to make sure the games have the same button layout.  That way when you switch games the buttons still match.  The smart button panels for these are great too but problematic at times.
