Has anyone come across this problem...
Programming an MEI (Bally) SC6607 will program just fine.
HOWEVER... MEI (Bally) SC6607(E) will NOT program. Even though these bv's came with the machine from the casino.

If they have an eprom in the head, it will disable the flash. Take apart the head and look for the PLCC socket, if it has a chip, then you have to change the firmware with a chip. Certain jurisdictions do not allow flash in the bill heads.

Took the heads off. They both have NO plcc "chip" .... sockets are empty.

The manual says if the Eprom has been installed then it locks them from further upgrade and has to be reset by MEI, are you sure they don't have Easi-Trak enabled and that is issue or do they just not take the download at all

how do you reprogram the MEI???
I have 2 of them for ballys but i need them for IGT..
Is there a program i can down load so i can do this???

The way I understand the MEI is that you need a special programmer to do the reprogramming.. They are hard to find and usually in the hands or certified repair people.. They are not like the old WBA units where you could reprogram the eprom, or reflash it..

You can't switch from Bally to IGT on the MEI's. The bally versions are rs-232, the igt versions are TTL/Loop, they are not compatible. It is not just a flash issue.

I have programmed all heads for different manufactures ie igt, bally, wms and they will work. What makes the BV RS232 or IGT is the personality board loacated in the housing. The igt board has 1 switch and the RS232 board has 2 switches. The head can be programmed to work with either of these configurations.

where did you get the program? we only have uba and wba programmers

MEI is a bit more squirrely with their software than JCM. Some parts of the program are passworded and they won't give you the password until you've completed some of their training classes. We got our copy on CD from one of our vendors who's an MEI reseller. As far as I know we can't simply download it from the website.

There is also a setting in the configuration menu that disables the eprom sockets and reverts the head back to flashable.

From what I know and have experienced I can program a MEI cash flow advance but not a std MEI cash flow. I have a tool for doing the MEI cashflow advance and JCMs also the SA4 for aristocrat and Aruze machines. I have about 30 MEI cashflow BNAs that have viridian mk7 and gen 8 heads on them if some one wants to make an offer.!!
