Title: Spectrum Progressive Topper Install on S2000
Post by: WILDCHERRY21 on May 02, 2014, 10:53:56 AM
OK need some help with this one.  I picked up a topper that will house a Spectrum Progressive Meter. I want to put this on one of my S2000 machines. I figured I would just hook it up  :24: It has a plug harness that I'm not familiar with.

So my question is how to I make this topper work with my S2000. It looks like the harness in the topper has all the wiring for the Spectrum meter. I'm stumped on this one. :EmoticonHelp4:

He res a couple pics.

Thanks
Garett

Looks like it can be done pretty easily. You will need to make a longer harness(s) for the meter, and run them to the distribution/netplex board in your top box. You will then need to steal power off of one of the wires running up to power your top box ballast (usually there are more then just the one power wire).

The hard part will be rigging a mount for the topper.

Here is a pic of the harness with the connectors you will need for the meter. Looks like you have all of them, just not long enough and they are wired into that base connector on the topper (which I have never seen)

GL!

Yes and no.  There is a harness to connect the progressive meter, but you will then need a quick-connect mating plug in order to connect the topper to the rest of the machine.  One could probably be made, but will need to know the pinouts.  The other solution is to remove that connector and just make extension cables from inside your topbox to wire everything up..  The other wiring in the topbox look like nothing more than 12 volts to power all the lighting (looks like a standard f8t5 bulb and a circline round fluorescent bulb).  Then there's a fan and the candle for the top.

The electronic fluorescent ballasts are 25V (really 24V but 1V is not gong to bother them)

Getting the matching mount is next to impossible
I have a Top Dollar topper and still have not found the machine portion of the mount or harness
I used a spare S2000 VFD harness to make a correctly wired harness for the Specrtum II display.
You just have to change the power connector to Molex Mini-Fit Jr 6 and 2 pin male housings and female crimp connectors.
The side with the latch is B Ground(black with red stripe) the opposite is the 13V (Red) this applies to both connectors
The driver board connector the ground is towards the inside of the board as is the latch.
The display board the ground and latch are towards the edge of the board.

I figured it would be a treat trying to get this mounted.  Maybe ill hang it from the ceiling or maybe pay a neighbor kid to hold it up while we play :24: Seems anything that is cool in the slot world takes a long time and sometimes a lot of luck to get it.

I did forget to mention that The Door VFD harness will be more than long enough to reach from your power dist board to inside the topper unless you are mounting it on a 31" high Round top or such top box

Since I change top boxes from 9" to Round Top. I made a modification to harness
I removed the 13V power and ground from the 10 pin molex.
Since the 4 pin connectors on the power dist board provide 25V, 13V, A Ground, B Ground, I installed a 4 pin connector on them
then used a male and female 6 pin mini-fit jr for the netplex portion of the wiring
You will need to extend your candle harness and a ground wire.
a spare candle can donate the correct wiring and connector.
