Title: S2000 No Sound
Post by: 429CV23 on April 02, 2017, 01:00:57 PM
Hey all
I received a "new" reel and now the machine works; thanks to all who gave advice!!!   :applause:

It has no sound though.  I assume the amp board is in the top cabinet, upper right side.  I verified it is getting 13+V via the red & black wires at the bottom harness connector.
I'm wondering about the J2 connector, top left on card; nothing connected there.  All other connectors are populated.  I removed & reseated the connectors with no change.
Board is part #76928001 Rev A
Code 1004245
Date 617

If a harness should be connected to J2, where does it originate?
Thanks!!

Nothing connects to J2. You have the volume settings up on the machines controls correct. I have seen where some casinos have actually unplugged the speakers, have you checked the plugs to the speakers themselves? Post a picture of the installed amplifier board.

Are you sure the volume level is not set at 0?

Speakers disconnected? Amps do go bad but want to rule out easy stuff.  Nothing from the speakers, no hum, buzz, or any noise at all?

No sound at all.

And the harness isn't loose at the coupling between top box and base or at the motherboard?
You might also unplug one speaker at a time to see if you have a bad one dragging the amp down

I have had a no sound issue & intermittent sound issue caused by the mpu board. Hope that is not your case. Is this a 502/504 mpu or a 1270? If it's the 1270 (enhanced) mpu, does it have the DSP chip installed? It is mandatory. I have had one bad one but that's very rare. I have some amp boards if you want to try one. You can swap one from another machine if you have one just to verify or rule that out.

I have the enhanced MPU, and there is no DSP chip.  Where can one be sourced?
Also, would I need the 2 or 6 DSP?  Game is Double Triple Butterfly Sevens, 5-reel.

Thanks!

Nice call RB you beat me to it. I was checking one of the previous post where he stated he had a 1270 board. Must have DSP chip. I'm sure RB can help you out.

I know a SIMM won't work without a DSPL chip installed, but didn't know 1270's couldn't use or didn't have generic sound files

Was it the DSPL chip?

Yes
Amp was fine.  Without the DSP chip the 1270 MPU has no sound.
