Title: IGT S+ Error Code 21, old coin style comparitor, how difficult to remove, replac
Post by: John6072016 on July 25, 2020, 10:35:12 AM
Will add photo soon.

Machine is fine other than the code 21. Checked it over on Friday. Connection issue? Where to check? What tools are needed ? Please advise? Good news, my other machines are 100% and are still fun to play!

 :thank_you:

Note, when dropping the quarter in the machine it does travel into the hopper, not the tray.

I am checking forum posts code 21.
cleaned 3 optics, still a no go.

The 21 code is caused by the coin optic board below the coin acceptor.
The problem could be a coin stuck inside the optic board, bad contacts on the plug that connects to it, dirt or dust inside the optic board (blow it out), or a bad coin optic board.

Thanks for your reply. this narrows it down greatly. bad coin optic board and/or bad contacts on the plug.
Leaning toward bad coin optic board, as it was functioning last time it was played.

If the optic board is part of a harness that wraps around the door frame then has a large Molex plug that plugs into the box the computer board is installed in you can also suspect the pins on that plug.
Each time the door is opened and closed on the game that harness gets stressed and eventually wires get broken inside the harness right at that Molex connector.

That break is very hard to find because there is no visible bare wire exposed, the break is right  where the wire enters the Molex pin.
The easiest way to find it is to remove the Molex pin then grab the wire that connects to it and give the wire a good tug, if it separates from the pin it means the wire was broken inside the insulation.

You may have done this already, have you tried just clearing the error ?

Simply press the white button multiple times until it goes through its cycle.
Close the door.

Drop in a coin and see if plays ?

Thanks Jay for your reply. I have done what you suggested.

As noted above, the two groups of wiring that go from the door to the brain box are heavily stressed at the coin tray, when the door is closed.
